"Let's go, let's go!"

She grabs a stick somewhere to pretend like it's the hero's sword, and they spend the morning playing. Most everyone has a small gift for her, she thanks them all sincerely

Tabby and Zeke occasional let it slip that they used to eat people, but everyone thinks they're joking.

Gren thinks it's a bad joke.

Around noon, there is a ship on the horizon to the north. And a giant bird.

"Pretty?"

Well, arguably. It looks monsterish to be honest.

Gren breaks out her telescope. "It looks like it kidnapped someone!"

Indeed the bird holds a small person in its claws. The ship is firing projectiles of some kind at it.

"Should we go help?" She surprises herself by saying this. Must be that empathy thing Deku mentioned.

"Don't think there's much we can do from here."

"Standing here doing nothing feels weird."

"...I'm gonna go tell Orca. If anyone knows how to fight a giant bird it would be him."

They follow.

After the situation is explained, Orca replies, "That is grave news indeed... But alas, I have no ranged weapons. I fear the best you can do is be prepared to assist if it proves necessary."

The twins look very frustrated.

"You two have a sorta-boat. It's probably way slower but you should get it ready."

When they go outside the giant bird has adjusted course, and is heading straight for Outset Island.

The ship - which appears to be flying a pirate flag - lands a direct hit on it, which makes the small girl it was carrying drop from its grip and fall into the forest at the island's peak!

The twins race over to where she fell.

It's back up the brambled path and across he bridge into the thick forested area.

"There might be monsters up there, if the bird's here. There's rumors about it. I'm gonna ask Orca to borrow the sword!"

"Good idea, we'll beat up any monster we see."

Orca gives her a stern warning and the information that the sword is a bane to evil and an advanced fighting lesson. Not that the twins know any of this as they dash to the peak and across the bridge only to find some kind of ugly green thing guarding the way.

Would it give them much trouble?

Hard to tell without trying.

It seems kind of stupid and distractable, though. Brandishing its sword at a rabbit for a moment before realizing it's not a threat.

Their wooden shield is just adorable.

Whether or not it's adorable, it's guarding the way deeper into the forest.

Sounds like Gren is coming up the brambled path now.

Zeke decides to try taking it out.

If he were a full vampire still, it would be easy. As it is, the reduced speed and strength mean he has to actually dodge the sword swing, go around the shield, and tear at it from behind.

After enough damage, it explodes into a cloud of black smoke.
