"So you have to help me go rescue her!"

"Do you have any idea what you're asking, here? You want to join us pirates, the big bad scourges of the sea? To rescue someone?"

"Think of it as nice kidnapping."

"Well, I don't even know where it's taking her."

"The beast makes its foul nest in the Forsaken Fortress," the postbird interjects.

"Really? ...Ugh, fine, tell you what. If you're really determined to do this I can maybe get you close. But I'm definitely not going into a deathtrap like the Forsaken Fortress myself."

"Someone has to rescue her. I'm someone."

"And we're like three and a half someones!"

"Are you sure you can survive going to a place like that? Really sure? I won't be held responsible if you all die on your reckless mission, you see."

Gren looks uncertain.

Zeke briefly ponders whether or not to tell Gren how she can get stronger, but decides against it.

"...You said it kidnapped people from all over. I need to talk to my mom first, but yeah I'm going to try."

"Well, since we're not catching that bird today I suppose we can wait until nightfall for you to chicken out." She smirks.

"Why are we doing all this standing around and arguing?"

"'Cause it's a day and a half's trip to the Forsaken Fortress and you need to sneak in at night if you want any chance anyway so we'd have to wait more. An hour now won't hurt it, honestly."

"Young lady, I know your reputation and trust me when I say that if you take advantage of these three's - heroic rescue attempt - I will make sure your reputation for keeping your word is forever tarnished."

Tetra nods. "Yeah, I get it. Promise is a promise."

Gren starts walking down the slope.

She is trying not to let her new friends see her cry.

Then she decides she wants her mom to not see her cry more and breaks down.

Zeke makes vaguely comforting noises.

She stops herself from crying fairly quick. She's as old as the Hero of Time, and the sword likes her. She can do this. Seems like nobody else will.

She glances at Zeke thankfully. But, "I want to talk to mom alone, I think."

She talks to her mom, alone, for a fair while. Their hearing is no longer good enough to inadvertently eavesdrop, they'd have to actually try.

Eventually she comes out, with the same clothes, and the sword, and a wooden shield decorated with a colorful crest, and a determined face. "Tabby and Zeke, are you gonna come with me and rescue everyone the stupid bird took?"

He puffs out his chest. "Yes!"

"We'll eat it for lunch!"

"Good. Get anything you need from your raft and let's go talk to Miss I'm Such A Big Bad Pirate."

They gather up their supplies and their book.
