Raafi nods. "I'd like to figure out what you should be eating, soon - it's not an emergency, but the sooner the better, still. I think you'll feel a lot better once we have that taken care of. So, we'll get settled, and then I'll go talk to him."

One nods - somewhere between agreement and acknowledgement.

Deka comes back over, then, and Raafi asks if One can share her room.

"Mm," she replies. "Not sure if... Tag..." she gestures to the dog, who's watching One curiously.

    "I wouldn't mind taking him, if he's all right with strangers."

"He is. Just overnight, maybe."

    "That sounds all right to me. One, does that sound all right to you?"

One's eyes have gone wide again. "Ah- if that's not- if...Tag? will be upset don't...have to?"

"He won't be upset." It seems like maybe if she's very careful she can pet One a little without getting burnt; she tries it. "Just curious about new things, might pester you if he stays."

One does push a little into Deka's hand, and the flames flicker away from her fingers to settle down near his paws. "I- if you're sure?"

"I'm sure. He doesn't always sleep with me anyway."

He ducks his head shyly. "D'like that then?" Pauses, looks at Tag. "Also. Maybe..." Makes a small gesture that seems to be trying to indicated getting to know Tag.

"Sure." She pets him gently for another second. "Ready to go?"

    "Mmhmm. I'll bring the sandbag up once we have our rooms; can you carry him?"

"Sure. -try, without the... spell?"

One nods, a little nervous, and shuffles his feet through the sand, which manages to smother most of the rest of the flames and looks at Deka. "Should be okay."

And she scoops him up again, very carefully, and they can get going. It's a few minutes' walk to the lift, which brings them up to a series of wooden paths and platforms with railings somewhat overgrown with decorative vines with big yellow trumpet-shaped flowers. Raafi takes the lead from there, and soon they've found the inn and he goes in to rent them rooms, while Deka goes to look over the railing at the view. "Pretty here."

One looks at at the view as well, feeling...surprisingly safe and content in Deka's arms. He nods. "Mhmm. Nice to see...different view?"

"I bet." She gently ruffles the top of his head. "You met halflings before? Or - heard about, I guess."

"Heard some, he'd...talk aloud sometimes, when he was working. Not much though."

"We travel a lot. All the time, mostly. Always seeing new things. - I'm not, exactly, but raised by them."

He's quiet for a moment, watching the view. "Sounds...mm. It wasn't scary?"

"No." She sounds very fond, saying it, and then pauses to think. "Well... a little, sometimes. When - reasons. Not usually. Good to be with - people you like, people you know. Kept each other safe, best we could. Was nice."

He nods. "Yeah it sounds...nice? I think. Seeing new things? Scary but..."

"Better than Rogeiros. Not hard to be." Pet pet pet.

After a moment, he cuddles a little more against her. "Hard to think like that. But- don't think you're wrong?"

"Mhm. Could try it sometime, maybe. If you stay. Not soon, but - take a break from school sometime, maybe, with a caravan. Once I know a little more."

"...Would be nice. But- this is...good? Too? Coming here. Scary but."

"Yeah. An adventure."

The griffons come into view from behind the leaves, winging their way over.

One perks up on seeing them, stretching out his neck from his nest in Deka's arm towards them in greeting.

"Hi! Found you!" They land on the railing, and Phantasm butts his head against Deka's hand where she's holding One while Figment offers him a bug. "Staying here?"

    "Mmhmm."

"Nice town. Come see?"
