It's a pleasant day for travel, and Deka's enjoying it - just enough clouds in the sky to cut the early summer heat, a nice breeze, birds singing in the trees, the clop of her draft goat's hooves on the trail, the twittering of her griffon friends as they flit from tree to tree overhead, keeping pace with her cart. She's excited, too: She's on her way to wizard college, but she's decided to check with any wizards she hears of along the way, as well, to see if she can find an apprenticeship, and the people in the last village she passed suggested she try here, at the arboreal mansion she's surely just a few minutes from being able to glimpse through the trees.
"Okay."
The first platform she comes to is suitably uncrowded, and she lands and presses a kiss to the top of One's head before setting him on the railing to go thank Raafi with a hug.
He chirps happily when she kisses his head, and pads a little back and forth along the railing, although that seems to be...excess happiness? Causing the movement. Weird.
She's only gone a minute, and then comes back for him. "Cute," she comments, when she sees him pacing.
He bounces a little when she returns, and then stands up onto his back legs, tilting his head a little at her comment of 'cute'.
He chirps shyly in response to that, and then holds his forelegs out slightly towards her.
She scoops him back up and kisses the top of his head again, and they can start back toward the inn.
Partway there, Raafi speaks up - "It just occurred to me - where's your dog?"
One twitches slightly. "Oh! I'm sorry- I didn't-" (He curls a little tighter, because Deka cares about her dog, and she's going to be angr- upset? if he's missing?)
"Not-" she stalls out on speaking, and pets him while she tries to find her words. "Not your fault, you didn't do anything. I - my job to watch her."
Figment preens a bit of Deka's hair while One speaks, and then answers - "Deka's bad at this, wuk, she always has been. Tag's a good dog and usually just goes back to the caravan, it's not usually a problem."
"Hard to remember when she doesn't - when it's always okay. But my fault, not yours."
"Oh," One says, thinks for a moment. "Okay." He cuddles a bit more into Deka, continuing to try and be reassuring. "I- I'm- pretty good at remembering things? Can- try to help with that?"
She hurries back toward the inn, though she's still paying enough attention to One to avoid any crowds he seems nervous of. And when they get there, Tag is waiting outside and comes to greet them, wagging her tail enthusiastically.
One is trying very hard not to seem nervous of any crowds! Getting back to the inn is far more important! He relaxes when he spots Tag coming towards them, and shifts ever so slightly so that he can reach his nose down a little towards the dog.
Tag is much less interested in One than in Deka, though she gives him a perfunctory noseboop when she leans down to pet her.
