It's a pleasant day for travel, and Deka's enjoying it - just enough clouds in the sky to cut the early summer heat, a nice breeze, birds singing in the trees, the clop of her draft goat's hooves on the trail, the twittering of her griffon friends as they flit from tree to tree overhead, keeping pace with her cart. She's excited, too: She's on her way to wizard college, but she's decided to check with any wizards she hears of along the way, as well, to see if she can find an apprenticeship, and the people in the last village she passed suggested she try here, at the arboreal mansion she's surely just a few minutes from being able to glimpse through the trees.
He nods slowly after a moment. "Just...I would like to. But don't want to...be inconvenient?"
He ducks his head slightly, shy, but makes a content chirrup at the fur-ruffle. "If you- say? Not...used to that."
"Yeah. Well. If you stay you get a say in things, even if you want inconvenient stuff. Same as me, same as Figment and Phantasm. If it doesn't all work we decide together what we want to do - might be we don't stay together anymore, but - don't want you to go. Won't mind if you want to, but -" she shrugs. "Not going to kick you out for wanting things. And I am going to try to make it so we all get what we want."
One's quiet for a moment as well. "...Don't think I want to go either? Don't- know. Not used to options but... Been...nice?"
One doesn't really have anything to say after that, and instead curls up in Deka's lap, watching the people around them, until they'd need to head back to the artist.
Up they go, then. Phantasm is sitting outside when they get there, looking smug. "Done already?"
"I am, wuk. She's finishing up with Figment."
"Got paid?"
"Four!" he nods, and Deka chuckles.
"Good for you. Want me to hold it?"
"Yes please." He's got the coins in a leafy bundle, tucked under his belly; he backs off to turn them over, and she takes them and tucks them in a pocket and then gives him a petting.
"Gonna finish here and then early dinner, you want to go find us a place?"
"Sure, wuk." He pads back over to give One a friendly headbump to the arm first, though.
That gets him a nuzzle and a bit of preening. "Any ideas for dinner? Spicy, sweet, savory, grains, veggies, meat?"
"Okay." And a little bit more preening, and then he goes.
Deka knocks on the door, waits, until it's clear that the elf isn't coming, knocks again.
"Yeah."
It takes another couple of minutes, but the door eventually opens. "Hi! Sorry for keeping you waiting. Back for more, or are you just here to pick Figment up?"
"Great. Come on in, I just need another minute with your friend." She leads them back to the workroom; the canvas has some sketches now of Phantasm and Figment glowing with magic, and Figment comes over to give One a friendly nudge before getting back to work, letting her catch some final nuance of her wings. Then it's One's turn again; she starts by going over her previous work, having him hold each pose for only a minute or so, and then eventually she goes back to touch up a few of them - a few details of his ears, and she wants to look at his paws again, and do another painting of his tail to make sure she's got the rings right. "...and that's all, I think. I'm glad you came by, this'll be a great addition to my portfolio. You too, Figment." She goes to the cabinet again to get out their payment.
Seems to be, yeah. She tucks away his coin and Figment's four and lets the artist lead them back out, and then wanders toward the inn, waiting for Phantasm to find them again.
"So, tonight - dinner, next, and I want to check on Kip, you want to come for that?"
"...Quiet night in sounds nice?" Pauses. "Maybe go climbing again if Figment and Phantasm want to? But-" Shrugs a little. "Quiet night sounds nice."
