It's a pleasant day for travel, and Deka's enjoying it - just enough clouds in the sky to cut the early summer heat, a nice breeze, birds singing in the trees, the clop of her draft goat's hooves on the trail, the twittering of her griffon friends as they flit from tree to tree overhead, keeping pace with her cart. She's excited, too: She's on her way to wizard college, but she's decided to check with any wizards she hears of along the way, as well, to see if she can find an apprenticeship, and the people in the last village she passed suggested she try here, at the arboreal mansion she's surely just a few minutes from being able to glimpse through the trees.
One's quiet for a moment. "...I don't think I'd like being...seen. Like in those restaurants. But the smith...or the fire department. That...I might like that?"
"Mmhmm. And you can still try at restaurants if you don't find a smith or a fire department you like, and just tell them you'll only work in the kitchen, it'll be less pay but you could still support yourself that way, I think. And you can ask around - or have Deka and the griffons ask around - about who else needs fires, too, I'm sure there are other trades that use it. If you decide to, I mean; I think you should definitely look into the wizarding college too, if you like that idea."
He nods rapidly. "I- I think- I'll need to...think. About it. And- I think I have time? As well? To...decide?"
"You do," he agrees. "It sounds like Deka's planning on letting you stay with her group, and I can find you something else if you ask, while I'm still around. I think it's important to know what you could do for yourself if something happened to us, though - not that it will, I don't think, but it's different if you know you'd be all right either way than if you really need us."
He nods again, slower, mosre thoughtful. "I'll...think about what I want to do. I think- I think I might like helping people? But- Would like to be able to stay with Deka, and her group. It's- nice. Uh- if they want me?"
"I think they do, they're certainly acting like it."
They fly on in silence after that, until Figment spots Deka heading toward the inn and wheels to intercept her; Raafi follows, landing neatly, and turns One over to her, or at least goes to.
Provided Deka seems okay with taking him, One will indeed transfer over to her, reaching out a little hesitantly to nuzzle her shoulder as he does so.
"We were wondering if you'd like to come flying, I have a spell for it."
Deka just smiles at that, and nuzzles the top of his head.
Raafi refreshes his own spell, and then offers her one. "It'll last half an hour, and it wears off slowly - don't go much higher than the treetops and you'll be fine."
She nods and takes it, and rises slightly into the air, hesitantly at first but soon finding her confidence. "Oh, I like that. Okay, where - going?"
One is glad Raafi suggested this! He can point out the direction they came from to Deka?
She goes where she's pointed, and soon they're up by the tops of the trees again, with the sunset just starting to come into full color. Deka's enraptured.
One is pretty enraptured too! Although he's making sure to try and keep track of time so that Deka has plenty of time to get back down to a more secure level.
Yeah, it's pretty obvious that she's not going to notice the time on her own. Raafi is hovering nearby, keeping an obvious eye on them, though.
When it starts getting near the time, One gently nuzzles Deka's shoulder to try and get her attention. "Might wanna head down soon," he says quietly (and clearly a little regretful himself).
"Mmm... yeah, thanks." She takes one last moment, turning a bit to look at the whole sky, and then starts descending. "That was - really good."
"That would be good!" One agrees, pushing into the scritches. "Do you think learning it would be hard?"
"Not sure. I think medium hard? Not - something I could learn today, but not... rare, only a few people can do it. Third or fourth tier, probably."
One nods. "Be interested to...see how you learn magic? Haven't- don't know how that works? But you don't have to?"
"Sure." She considers. "I guess we could tonight. Takes the same time no matter when, and then you can - look at my spellbook by yourself, later, or scrolls."
