It's a pleasant day for travel, and Deka's enjoying it - just enough clouds in the sky to cut the early summer heat, a nice breeze, birds singing in the trees, the clop of her draft goat's hooves on the trail, the twittering of her griffon friends as they flit from tree to tree overhead, keeping pace with her cart. She's excited, too: She's on her way to wizard college, but she's decided to check with any wizards she hears of along the way, as well, to see if she can find an apprenticeship, and the people in the last village she passed suggested she try here, at the arboreal mansion she's surely just a few minutes from being able to glimpse through the trees.
She scritches gently behind his ears. "Good."
The music continues; Deka eventually spots Raafi in the crowd below and sends Phantasm down to show him where they are, and he comes up to join them. "Enjoying yourselves?"
"Mmhmm."
One hums out his agreement as well, focus still more on the bards, although he's paying enough attention to Raafi in case he needs his attention.
Raafi leaves him be until the bards take a break, turning the stage over to a different artist who switches to a different style of song, a call-and-response that includes the audience below.
"I've got our rooms set up - they didn't have two next to each other, but I'm across the hall and one door down, we should be fine. And I'm ready to go talk to my friend whenever you are - I don't know if he'll want to come right away, but he might."
One thinks about that, paying more attention to Raafi now. He hesitates, tries to convince himself that asking this would be okay, and eventually manages, very quietly: "Could...could you wait until...tomorrow?"
It gets a smile out of him. "Of course. I might go check out the market, then, if you don't need me for anything."
One shakes his head slowly, not entirely certain he's the one that the words are directed at, but it seems like the right action to take.
"All right. -oh, I wanted to give you something-" he fishes a small carved bird out of his belt pouches. "This is magic, you write a message and tell it to deliver it to me and it will, the command word's on the bottom. In case there's some kind of emergency."
"Okay. Teach you later." She takes the statuette anyway. "Thank you."
Raafi gives a half-bow and goes on his way, and Deka tucks the statuette into a pocket. "Gotta put you down to - write notes. Later."
One nods again, and settles back into Deka's arms. "'Ll be okay when you need to. Can walk."
The original band comes back after their break, and plays through until dinnertime, which Deka notices when an elf with a food cart shows up on the platform to see if anyone wants to buy stuffed roasted apples or herbed baked carrots. "You hungry?"
One's instinct is to deny that he is, and he does indeed start to before he pauses, and tilts his head slightly. "Could...probably eat?"
She goes over, hanging back a little until the other people who've come over to buy things are done, then asks what's in the apples - nuts and berries with an acorn flour crumble - and buys three of them and a bundle of carrots, giving two of the apples to the griffons to carry and carefully balancing the others with One; it's awkward, but works well enough for the few steps it takes to get to a table, where she can put him down more comfortably. "Carrots are for me - herbs are riskier, apple should be safe for you."
One nods as he settles on the table, sniffing curiously at one of the apple. He glances up to Deka, before settling on his haunches and picking up the apple to eat.
-That's not really a hard claim to make, but he's not going to argue with it! He tries not to eat too quickly but it's hard when it's so delicious!
"Can get another after, if you want," Deka points out between bites of carrot. (The carrots smell - weird - partly tasty, but there's something off about them, like it'd be a bad idea for him to take a bite. Deka seems enthusiastic enough about them, though.)
One does extend out to sniff at the carrots, but retreats back to his apple soon enough. "I- I could? I- thank you!"
