It's a pleasant day for travel, and Deka's enjoying it - just enough clouds in the sky to cut the early summer heat, a nice breeze, birds singing in the trees, the clop of her draft goat's hooves on the trail, the twittering of her griffon friends as they flit from tree to tree overhead, keeping pace with her cart. She's excited, too: She's on her way to wizard college, but she's decided to check with any wizards she hears of along the way, as well, to see if she can find an apprenticeship, and the people in the last village she passed suggested she try here, at the arboreal mansion she's surely just a few minutes from being able to glimpse through the trees.
Raafi leaves him alone to think, and before too long the food starts smelling good and he and Deka settle in to eat. The griffons come back to beg for tidbits from Deka's bowl, which she readily gives them, having made extra for exactly this reason.
One watches the interaction curiously, head resting on the stones at the edge of the firepit to give him a better view.
Deka signs to Phantasm when she notices him watching, and the griffon ferries over a piece of meat to offer him.
Raafi looks like he has something to say about that, but instead shakes his head - "I suppose a day or two of that won't hurt anything."
One hesitates to take the piece of meat, tilting his head at Raafi and chirruping questioningly.
"I'm not sure what's safe for you to eat, besides bamboo and what you're used to. But if the kinds of things the griffons are eating are bad for you it'll take a few weeks for it to be a problem, and by then I'll have had a chance to ask a druid. You can't assume that things are safe just because a humanoid can eat them, though, we're pretty good at handling things that would poison other kinds of creature."
One pauses, and then sniffs at the meat, before nodding slightly, and picking it up to at least try.
Dinner passes uneventfully, otherwise, and One gets several more bites from Deka's plate. It's fully dark and feeling pretty late by the time they're done, and after briefly discussing setting watch (probably not necessary; this is a pretty safe region and Raafi's a light sleeper) and assuring One that he's allowed to pull in more logs if the fire gets too low for his liking, they settle in for the night.
When he's finished eating, One considers the fire for a little bit, and then curls himself into a ball, tucked deeper into the crescent to sleep. It's a little more difficult for him to sleep out here, but he manages.
The sun comes up early this time of year; Raafi still beats it, but not by the full hour that he usually manages. He checks on One, very quietly, before leaving for his devotions.
He nods. "I was going to go do my devotions, but I can do them here if you'd like the company."
"All right. I'll be back in an hour or so, then, and you should be able to find me from the road if you need anything."
He goes.
Figment's the next one awake, as the sun starts to peek over the horizon; she nudges Phantasm awake too, and then flits off into the trees while he pads over to do his own check on One.
One perks up a little when Phantasm approaches. "Hi," he says quietly, mindful of Deka still sleeping.
"Good morning!" He's quiet, but not as worried about waking her up, it seems. "Slept okay?"
One thinks and then nods. The bamboo pile is not looking overly depleted - likely due to One still not having the biggest appetite - but dragging more across might be good anyway, even if purely for the purpose of reminding one he can eat as much as he likes.
It's really a job for someone with hands, though. He nudges the piled bamboo toward One and then goes to get something else for himself - he winds up rolling an apple out of the bigger pile and over to the fire, where he settles down to peck bits off of it to eat.
