"Maybe because I haven't trusted him from the start, and quite frankly at this point I don't think there's anything he can do to change that..."

“That could be, yeah.  Maybe we should try to find another one and see if he’s less... like that.”

Nod. "Maybe the one Mal works with? She seems to trust hers well enough."

“That’s a good idea.”

The bus arrives.

"Talk to you later? I have - something to talk to you about, too, nothing major though."

“ - Sure.”

Class! Lianne's quiet all day, worrying - both over Kaylee's talk with Kyubey, and over what she plans to say to her friend.

When gym rolls around, she falls into step beside Kaylee, and says, "So... Um. I'm not sure how to say this..."

Kaylee's mind has been churning all day and somehow this sends it into overdrive.  She has a sudden horrible premonition that Lianne is about to confront her about how much she loves to fight witches, that she somehow guessed Kaylee's wish and how unwise it was...

" - what is it?"

"I - really like you. Like, a lot. You're just - such a good person, and I love spending time around you, even when times are tough. I'd - do you want to go on a date with me? Like, a proper date, not a friendship outing - though I'm fine just being friends if that's what you want! Um, I'm messing this up aren't I..."

"Oh!  I - "

This is pretty clearly not what she had been expecting.

"I don't know - I guess I never really thought about - that?  With, us?  I'm not even - I don't know if I - like?  Girls?  But, I mean, I don't - know that I don't... and, I mean, I really like you too!  You're really nice and you're smart and you have such a drive to help people and protect people and - you saved my life, and - you're really pretty too - "

She blushes bright red and looks at the floor.

"I think - if I were gonna go out with a girl - I'd want it to be you."

Shy smile. "We can try and see how things go, maybe?"

"Yeah.  Let's - Friday?  I mean - " she blushes and laughs.  "Does going out to dinner on Friday work for you?"

"Great! It works great for me! Um. So. Like, dinner?"

"Yeah - I know a good Italian place, or, if you have suggestions...?"

"Italian's good!"

"Great!  I can probably meet you at your house around five, and then we can take the bus into town?"

"Yeah! I'll let my mom know the plan, then confirm tomorrow?"

"Sounds good!"  They walk on.  "...what do people do after they've asked each other out?"

"No idea! I've never done this before."

She giggles.  "Me either.  I guess on TV the conversation always kinda ends here."

She hesitates a moment, reaches out to take Lianne's hand, hesitates again, and then sort of brushes against her fingers questioningly.

Hand-holding! And blushing!

Happy blushing and hand-holding!  And a new spring in Kaylee's step.

Skipping would be Weird but she totally feels like skipping.

(They're getting slightly odd looks from a boy in their class.)

Kaylee ignores him, or possibly just doesn't notice.  (She's holding Lianne's hand and they're gonna go out on a date on Friday!  And Lianne keeps grinning and it is Extremely Cute!)

Lianne would maintain that Kaylee's the cutest! 

She's on cloud nine enough to carry her through the rest of gym class.
