She doesn't get very far. After Saturday lunch she retreats to her room, heart thumping, fingers drumming nervously.
"As much as I'd love to stick around, my mom's kinda expecting me back."
"All right, I can give you a ride back now."
"See you in a bit, Mom," Kaylee says, and then: to the car.
To the car, and then home.
Lianne keeps up a light chatter about school during the ride, then wishes Kaylee a goodnight when they arrive at her house.
"I had a ton of fun. Do this again sometime?"
"Bye!" She waves, and resists the temptation to blow a kiss as Lianne walks away from the car, in case her mother sees.
