:That makes a lot of sense. Well, we can manage. At worst Van can take a few days of leave, if he's having trouble coping:

:Yeah. I'll do the healing first unless the hibernation fits in before it anyway, that should help. And I'll talk to him about it, of course.:

:Is there anything I can do for you? It's strange to me how little Companions interact with humans besides their particular ones, I keep feeling like I'm neglecting you.:

:...What, me? Or all of us? Honestly, I think things that help our Heralds are pretty meaningful to us. The stables could be a bit nicer, sure, but we're hardy:

:All right. Let me know if there is anything, though.:

:I will: Yfandes' blue eyes rest on her. :Deskyl, I'm glad you ended up here, even if it wasn't on purpose. And I'm really grateful you're deciding to stay:

:Me too. Sith don't usually trust the Force, and I understand why, but - it's not a mistake to.:

:Mmm: Yfandes is quiet for a moment. :Anything else you wanted to talk about today?:

:Not unless you had something.:

Yfandes shakes her head; it's a weirdly humanlike gesture on a horse.

:Goodnight, then.:

She goes to bed. The next day is much like the previous one; Deskyl spends it mostly asleep until dinnertime and DZ spends it in the library.

Then Savil will track down DZ in the library. "When you have a chance, can you pass on to Deskyl that the Queen is available to meet with her tonight over supper?"

"Yes ma'am. Do you know where Van is? I should tell him that she won't be eating with him tonight."

"Oh - have they been eating together lately? I think he's doing some work but I can Mindspeak him." Her expression flattens for a moment. "Done, he says it's fine. Er, how are you getting on here? Anything we can help with?"

"I'm fine, ma'am, thank you."

"All right. See you round." She gives DZ the time and place for supper – it'll be hosted at the royal suite dining room – and heads out.

They're there right on time; Deskyl doesn't have any dressier clothes than her usual wardrobe, but she's picked the outfit with the embroidery she likes best - an intricate swirling design in primary colors, suggesting flowing water - and DZ has been shined up for the occasion.

Savil opens the door. She's wearing her usual Whites but has done her hair up more nicely than usual and is wearing a pearl necklace.

She introduces Justen, who is frail and white-haired and smiles a lot. He will kiss her hand if she seems okay with this but won't complete the motion if she in any way looks unhappy about it.

Deskyl doesn't object at all. :It's good to meet you. I hear you're a teacher?:

He lights up. "I am, yes! Well, among many other duties, but it's always been my favourite. Students are our path to the future, you know..." He will chatter on while they walk to the dining room. His thoughts are almost as straightforward as his words – he's heard only a little about her from Savil, mostly about the engineering and technology aspect, and is fascinated and eager to hear more.

And Queen Elspeth rises to greet them. She doesn't look very much like a Queen; she's a small woman, wearing ordinary Whites like Savil, slightly loose on her thin body. No crown or royal jewels. Lined face, hair streaked with grey but still mostly dark. Sharp, intelligent eyes.

"Deskyl, right?" she says, nodding to her. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

:Yes, and my droid DZ.: She turns to indicate the metal woman, who's following a step behind and to the right. :It's good to meet you, too.:

Elspeth nods to DZ. "Welcome to Haven. Come, have a seat."

Her thoughts are a bit distracted; she's been mulling over snippets from what must have been an earlier Council meeting; and she's less uncomplicatedly pleased about Deskyl than Justen was. It's less that she has any specific worry, more that having a powerful foreign person in Haven who straight-up refuses to be part of the Heralds' chain of command is both unprecedented and uncomfortable. So far she isn't expecting it to go badly in any particular way but she's definitely tracking the possibility. She's pleased about the healing, though; it could complicate the future but she's confident they can handle that, and it'll simplify things a lot now, her energy isn't what it used to be and that is affecting her ability to stay on top of the Council's whims.

They go where they're directed. :Thank you. We appreciate your hospitality, especially in such unexpected circumstances.:

They sit down. Drinks are poured by a polite youngster in a page uniform.

"So," Elspeth says after a beat. "What did you want to ask me about?"

:I should start at the beginning, I suppose - I have healing, among other powers, that works differently than your local kind, and the idea came up a few days ago of using it to give the Heralds a bit more manpower by healing some of your more senior members. I'm confident that that will work, but my healing is a rare ability - I've never actually met someone else who knows how to do it - and I'm less sure of some of the details; there's a chance it will also de-age people, functionally extending their lifespans. I don't know that it will, I've never used it on someone older than their mid-twenties, but it seems reasonably likely to me given how it works. The idea also came up of offering this healing to you, and before I make my decision about that I'd like to know what political effects it would be likely to have.:
