"That makes sense. What did you think of Queen Elspeth? I've only met her a bit and I was pretty intimidated."

:I like her! She's got a good head on her shoulders, and good priorities. Which definitely makes my life easier - I don't like getting into politics, it's always so complicated and I just want to build things, and I was worried that de-aging her - did I tell you about that? I might be able to - would destabilize things, but she mostly wants to give her heir a little more time to get ready to take the job and then retire.:

"De-aging? That would be - wow." Vanyel rubs his eyes. "...That'd mean Savil too, right? I mean, if it works." His thoughts are a tangle of trying not to hope too much, yet, he doesn't know if it'll work.

:If it works, yeah. I've never done it on someone older than myself before, so I'm not sure, but it seems likely.:

Vanyel nods. He's going to - hold off on thinking about it too much, yet, because it'll hurt too badly if it turns out not to work. Which means he can't really let himself feel the gratitude yet, and he feels embarrassed about that, he should be able to thank Deskyl for thinking to try even before they're sure. He looks down at the floor.

She takes his hands. :Too much?:

"I don't know. I guess it's hard to think about." He could use a hug. Hugs are not hard to think about.

Hugs she can do. Not as comfortably as if there was a couch or something, but well enough. :That's fine. You can take your time. And - I won't always do it, but you can always ask me to slow down.:

"I don't want you to not do it or anything. Waiting longer would be worse. I, just... I'm sorry I'm such a mess about everything all the time."

:It's fine.: She snuggles up a little. :This is one of those times I wouldn't listen, anyway. But it's normal to not have it all figured out yet at your age - even at mine, really. And even before you have interdiemsional visitors with strange magic running around.:

Vanyel nods. He feels like maybe she's just being reassuring - most people his age have it figured out more than he does - but he doesn't mind that much, right now reassurance is nice.

"I should probably go to bed," he says eventually. "I've got Mindspeech relay first thing in the morning."

:All right.: She unsnuggles a bit and starts the calming effect. :I'll see you tomorrow before dinner, then. And - just remember that you're mostly only seeing what people show you, all right? You don't want to be overwhelmed, and you hide it, and you think nobody else feels that way, but they're just hiding it too, most of them.:

The calming is really nice even though he should probably get less rather than more in the habit of relying on it. Vanyel starts drifting toward his bedroom. "Really? Even you?"

:Yeah, even me. Sith training means I'm a little better at handling it, is all.:

"Maybe you can give me some pointers." Vanyel yawns. As usual, as soon as he's calm, he starts feeling drowsy almost immediately. "...I should get in bed before I fall asleep on the floor or something."

:All right.: She gives him another squeeze and lets him go. :Goodnight.:

Vanyel crawls into bed and is asleep within about three minutes.

And Deskyl goes back to her room and to bed.

DZ's in the library as usual, the next day, if anyone goes looking for her.

Savil comes to look for her after lunch. "Hope your reading is going well? I wanted to check when and were we should meet with Deskyl to go look at the cottage. Van said you wanted him to come? He's gone to take a break right now, I think, but he'll be free in a few candlemarks."

"Yes ma'am. She should be available, thank you."

"Excellent. Hmm - meet you both out front of the Heralds' Wing in three candlemarks?"

    "Yes ma'am."

They're there as agreed.

"It's this way." Savil leads them past Companions' Field, to a region of the grounds that seems to be mainly greenhouses and vegetable-garden plots.

Vanyel trails behind, occasionally kicking stones on the path.
