"Normal day, school, that kinda stuff, yours? Did you manage to tell your mom?"

"Yes and no. I fell asleep early and she arrived late and I didn't want to have this conversation in the morning before she went to work. Pretty sure it is the mana thing making me tired."

"...that sounds like an unambiguous no, what's the yes part?"

"Ah, I meant I had a normal day at school. Nothing unusual, no extra magical friends to help us."

"Shame. Anyway, how's the compass work?"

"It gives this sense of a 'pull' towards magical things, I think there is some variation between strength of the magic and how far it is but it might be my imagination. I triangulated the unknown source of magic by moving around and it's that way." He points.

"Let's go that way, then!"

Temple leads. The place is too small to count as a park, but has trees, benches and a gazebo-like structure.

The source of magic is behind the gazebo in an area that is blocked from view by tall bushes and...

"...I am pretty sure the thing is underground." He looks around. "Should we dig and find out?"

"Oh no we should probably leave the mysterious magic artefact buried here are you kidding me of course we should."

That is the right answer. Temple tries magic and if that proves not to be fast enough, will just dig with his own hands and clean them later (with magic, magic is so convenient!).

Magic sans scrolls is definitely very slow.

Too bad he didn't bring any paper and pencil. Oh, wait, of course he did! He tries a mixture of both, ideally to get the ground fluffier and easier to dig through.

That's fairly easy to do.

Okay so they dig out... it is not an actual pirate treasure chest (too small) but it is reminiscent enough, maybe a thematic jewelry box or something. The lock breaks apart the moment Temple pulls the thing from the ground. He opens the box and inside...

...a book!

"Ooookay this is even better than an ancient magical artifact it is an ancient magical tome of forbidden lore!"

"Yes!" Temple fist pumps the air. "Lets see what dark magic it has inside."

Temple notices the lock - can he open it? If so, what is inside?

It opens as soon as he touches the book, actually. Very mysterious.

And inside: cards!

Yeah, Temple totally noticed that.

He takes the cards out. "Maybe it is some kind of alternative Tarot deck?" Temple ponders out loud, while shuffling through the cards. "With weird cards like 'The Sweet'?" He says holding up the relevant card.

The card glows and a plant nearby turns into candy plant.

"...um."

Temple holds the card away from himself and eyes it suspiciously for a moment. It isn't going away...

"Did you see that?" Temple ask, he then pokes the candy plant.

"Yes, ergo 'um.'"

"Um indeed." Temple says. His confusion starts to turn into a smile. "The Sweet?" He repeats, wary of that tug and vaguely pointing at another nearby plant.

Candy!

"Ooooh." Temple pages through the cards and picks one that doesn't look too dangerous to test. "Flower! The Flower? The Flower."

Just "Flower" seems to work.

The card glows and becomes a girl who starts dancing and making cherry tree flowers appear out of thin air in a soft rain of fluff.
