"Oh. Um. Uh. If you tell yours as soon as you get home? I mean I kinda—don't really keep secrets from my mom. At all. Ever."

"She has been working late lately. Urgh, I will have to deal, it won't affect anything."

"I'm sorry."

"Not your fault." Temple smiles politely.

"I know, but I still feel regret about the situation," he shrugs.

"Yeah, next time, try not to be more obviously magical in public," Temple says a bit more cheered up. "Urgh, okay, there is nothing we can do about it." Sigh. "I feel like brainstorming ideas for the magic compass spell."

"Before we finish looking around for more magical people?"

"Maybe, I wouldn't recommend casting it for the first time while in public, in case the magical accident happens - we need a name for those. Oh, and mana doesn't recover while a spell is active, or if it does it is slower."

"Hmm. Well, maybe we could go to a library or something tomorrow, and test there?"

"That should work. I mean, lets avoid ending up covered in pear juice amidst books, but that should work."

"...right, we should definitely try to not be covered in juice."

"Yes. Especially because I have no idea why it was juice, or random petals, or whatever."

"Seems pretty random from what you described."

"Yes, and it was... funny random, not my molecules being rearranged in lethal ways random."

"It seemed to be limited in, like, power and scope, apparently? They were all small spells, and small effects..."

"I think creating things like petals is rather strong, unless it was teleportation, in which case I hope that whoever lost that pear juice didn't need it. But it is rather proportional, yes."

"I'm not sure it's running on any sensible scale of what should be possible."

"Who would think magic is like that?"

"Well there are several possible magic systems that don't suffer from this problem!"

"Aaaaw you wanted a more serious magic system? Maybe our dramatic storm ritual can be so our magic system gets more serious, maybe instead of a tug and funny effect we can get it to cause pain or something."

"I don't want it to be serious I want it to be sensible."

That makes him giggle. "What would a sensible magic system would look like to you then?"

"I'm not sure, never having actually stopped to think about it, but not this!"

More giggling. "So far, my main complaint is the lack of mana bars and easily available mana potions."

"How dare real world magic not be like video games."
