"He's always been of kind creepy. He mostly grew out of it."

"Anyway, let's talk about something else."

Does Tyler want to hear about how bad their math teacher is? Lydia has an essay on the subject.

A literal essay?

But sure, he'll find out how bad their math teacher is.

A verbally delivered essay that she would never commit to writing.

She explains that if he actually wants to learn math, he can join her in taking a class at the local college.

"Lydia, not everyone is at your level when it comes to math."

"I haven't really thought about doing math at college, actually," says Tyler. "I wasn't planning on going into it, long-term, but– maybe?"

"I'm not sure how you plan to skip college math on just our school's AP class, but we can study together."

"I meant I hadn't thought about doing advance things at college, not that I planned on skipping out totally, but yeah."

Anyway here's her rant about high school math. It takes the rest of lunch, unless she's interrupted.

Tyler doesn't interrupt.

He does, though, at the end of lunch, ask if the birds are the main only weird thing to happen around here, because – well, it was pretty weird.

"The main thing, yeah. Nothing else weird at school."

"And in the rest of town?"

"Mountain lions don't usually come all the way down here, but besides that, no."

… Nod. "Well, see you all later."

And off to Econ.

Econ! A tortured sports metaphor to explain equilibrium!

School continues to be kind of dull.

Tyler wasn't really expecting anything different.

After Econ, it's History! (Woo.)

WWII and boats, enthralling stuff.

Very much so.

Then French! Which is hopefully somewhat more interesting? Like, sure, he gets it can't be super fun, especially since he's pretty good at it, but, like, better than boats?

French is at least competently taught.

The students are quite welcome to ask questions of her in English, but must speak French with their classmates.

Tyler is happy to speak French all the time, actually!

He's rather good at it, too.

The teacher is impressed, and compliments him on his hard work and skill.

And that's the end of the day, so he's free to spend his time however he likes.

He's gonna try finding Lydia or someone and see if anyone's up to anything!

Plenty of people are up to something, yes.

As in, like, coffee? He's up for that!

"Me and Allison won't be able to make it, but you can go with Danny."
