Edie was perusing the latest correspondence from her fork. She still should have been paying enough attention to realize that the door didn't go where it ought before it swung shut and she couldn't sense anyone else anymore, but she wasn't.
After opening and closing the door a couple times to make sure she hadn't just been abducted somehow, she looks around.
"Guy who evaporated your killer robot and healed your sister before he teleported away probably muttering about how much work we are."
"Yep! The married ones come out of their room, like, once every two weeks to request two weeks more food."
"They were separated for thirty thousand years and it kinda fucked them up. So what's your story?"
"We belong to a recently-discovered minority with powers and eight years ago when we were twelve a rogue faction in the American government unleashed genocidal murderbots on us. They got our parents when we were fifteen and we've been on our own on the run ever since."
"Wow. Well, fuck that. We can't do resurrections except of my kind of Elf, yet, but we're gonna figure it out and no time'll pass until then."
"I can see why she likes you," she says a while later when the tears have run dry.
"Well, if there's more complexity to it than 'genocide robots' by all means fill me in, but genocide robots sounds super 'fuck that'."
"As far as I can tell most of the multiverse is kind of shit. It's okay, my brother's gonna take over and take good care of all of it."
"I think that's like ninety percent that you would have no idea what to do in bed with a girl."
