"What interest do you have in this, anyway?"

"I'm a problem-solver by nature. And if I'm going to stay somewhere, I prefer there to be no active serial killers."

"And knowing that Kali is, what, apologizing by proxy, is supposed to convince me to stop? They're still a threat."

"But not one you need to face alone."

"You're proposing an alliance? What makes you think you have the power to take them on, without a ritual like mine?"

"I have a god on my side."

"Really? Which one?"

"Her name is Ellayania. We're... not from this world originally."

"Really. Can you help trees grow?"

"If the tree's inside her domain, sure."

"Does she want help expanding her domain? Where is it right now?"

"I think first we want to know why you're so eager to grow a tree."

"The ritual I've been doing is to heal the Nemeton, return it to its former state, so it can give me the power I need to fight the alpha pack. If I can skip the ritual, then I think we'll both be happy."

"I'm not familiar with what a Nemeton is."

"A sacred grove. Druids used them to meet and to work our magic. This one is just a tree stump, now, the surrounding trees are long dead, but this one has been recovering slowly, in recent years. I've been helping it along with the sacrifices, so it can be a source of power again."

"The way Ellayania gets trees in her domain to grow quickly is that she is the land and the trees. I'm not sure how that would interact with your magic."

"That's too bad. I suppose if your goddess can handle the alpha pack herself, I don't need power for its own sake...it would be nice if I could heal the Nemeton anyway, but it's not a priority."

"It's just an untested interaction, we don't know that she couldn't do it. But even without, she can easily handle the alpha pack if they're in her domain."

"So all I have to do is lead them to her?" 

"If you're really set on killing them, that's the easiest way."

"What were you planning on doing with them?"

Pascale shrugs. "Talk to them, first. Figure out what they want, why they're here. Convince them to play nice, or to leave."

"They won't play nice; they have no respect for other werewolves, and even less for humans like us." 

"It'd still be nice to know what their deal is."

"You think they'll give a better answer to me?"
