"Maybe they won't attack you, but having a target on your back won't help. If I can get you a more neutral place to stay, that should help..."

"It might. I could also stay in Ellayania's domain, now that there is one here."

"Wouldn't you need a house? Shelter?"

"Long term, yeah, that'd be good to have. But she has absolute control of her domain, she can keep it perfectly comfortable for me."

"Long-term goal, then. If she can make it safe, you should probably move out soon. The less connected we look, the better for you."

"Soon like tonight? I don't have any stuff to pack if you can give me a ride over."

"Up to you. We don't mind letting you stay, I just don't want there to be any problems with your diplomatic approach."

"I think I've kept your mother out of her bed for long enough. I'll go tonight."

"You're welcome here any time. Should I take you there, or does that kind of miss the point?"

"I'm probably sufficiently anonymous in a helmet."

Pascale wants another motorcycle ride!

She can have one!

And then they're in Ellayania's domain.

It's slightly cooler than the surrounding forest, and the earth squelches wetly when stepped on. A multilayered voice whispers into Scott's ear.

"I thank you, Scott McCall, for the kindness you have shown to my acolyte." A gleaming black stone appears by his foot. "Take this. If you require my aid, simply ask."

"Thank you, Ellayania."

He picks it up.

"I brought you something, too."

He places a book on the ground.

The book starts to melt into the ground.

"I will treasure it.

Pascale smiles approvingly at Scott.

He looks around the domain.

He does not offer his opinion on swamps.

"Do you need help settling in? I don't know what you were planning."

"No, I'll be okay. See you at school tomorrow."

So he goes home.

Nobody bothers her.

That means she can show up a little early for school tomorrow, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.

She can!
Does she want help finding her classroom, or does them calling her with the room number cover it?

She considers herself a smart cookie. The room number will be enough.

Well, then she will have students.

Looks like she's teaching chemistry.

Ah, chemistry. The science of reactions! Dimensional analysis, balancing chemical equations, setting things on fire. Good stuff.

Uh, what exactly is on the lesson plan for today?

Would she like to ask one of the students? The usual teacher didn't leave notes.
