The next day, as with every day, students must attend homeroom.
"Erica, hey! Um." She looks at the rest of the table. "I'm Juliet, this is my boyfriend Matt. We just wanted to come over and say hi?"
(Matt does not preen at 'boyfriend', because he's a human boy, but he seems pleased.)
"Hey."
Erica's mother, a stressed-looking blond with glasses and a tidy ponytail, smiles politely at them.
"Hello. Are you two friends of Erica's?"
"She's definitely my friend." She smiles at Erica. "We haven't discussed reciprocation yet," she jokes.
"Say hello, Erica," says Erica's father, a noticeably younger man than his wife.
"Hello, Juliet."
Juliet takes her cue.
"It was nice to meet you all. Hopefully I'll see you again soon."
"It was nice meeting one of Erica's friends," says her mother, with a pointed look at Erica.
She shrugs.
"It was nice to be met," she jokes. "We'll leave you guys to your meal."
Juliet sits back at the booth and laughs.
"That was a thing that happened. I hope meeting your parents will go as well as that did."
She leans her head on his shoulder, reading his menu too and picks something at random.
Burgers it is!
Matt amends his order to add fries, please, and the waitress moves on.
"I forgot to mention, tryouts are today. You can watch, if you want."
She stays where she is and nods. "I should go find my bag too. I think I left it in Homeroom. It has my phone in it. My camera is in my locker too..."
"What time does it finish? I have to be at the Boarding House before sunset."
Kisses!
Matt seems to be self-conscious about public kisses, but not enough to pass on them.
Juliet will only draw it out a little bit. Maybe just until their food arrives.
Their food arrives, by which point Brian and his brother are on their way out.
