"Six billion fucking people."

"Hopefully there's more people in the other sections. Ten people is way too few."

"Yeah. Need genetic diversity and that shit."

"I'm not actually sure we do. The clinic can do genetic engineering and so the threat of recessive diseases is less pronounced than it would be otherwise."

"Nobody's gonna wanna shack up with their cousin or half sibling or whatever in thirty years anyway."

"Yeah, I think we could do in-vitro fertilization and such if it came to that. Also, there are hints at dealing with a lot of age-related illnesses in the system. It might be that with enough preparation and understanding we won't ever die."

"Wouldn't that be something."

"It's an exciting possibility."

"That's quite the consolation prize."

"Sure is."

At about this point Anna shows up.

"Morning."

"Hi there, we were just discussing possibly being the last of the human race and then Riley said she thinks the clinic might be able to make us functionally immortal."

"...I'm going to have to ask you to back up and explain."

"Which part, armageddon or immortality?"

"....both."

"Life on Earth might be wiped out tomorrow morning at 6 AM eastern time."

"...Details please. In layman's terms. I didn't take more than the minimum requirements of physics."

"There's very dense object called a neutron star on a collision course with the sun. Depending on precisely how the two collide there's a lot of uncertainty as to how bad this will be. The scientists on the news seem to think it won't cause the sort of radiation burst that could theoretically wipe out all life on Earth but well we're here so if it isn't a coincidence this is suggestive in a not so encouraging direction. On the least bad end the sun will just get a bunch of it's mass torn away and orbits will shift in small but hopefully not catastrophic ways."

"Yeah, I don't have enough data to know what's actually going to happen. I'm not sure if the scientists on Earth do either. I'm hoping that this is just a coincidence and that Earth is going to be fine, but it doesn't seem promising."

"No. Well. We should probably get in touch with people in other complexes and make sure they know this. Though it's still early."

"Not everyone in our complex is awake."

"Yeah. So we should wait a bit. I want breakfast first anyway."

"Makes sense."
