And stares at him.

He could tell her that in his culture that is rude but a) why should she care and b) then he will be having a conversation with her. He ignores the staring and instead looks at the heels of the person ahead of him in line, or at the wizard when he does wizardry.

The wizard is repeating a lot of his rhymes.  The heels of the person in front of him have little flappy wings attached to their sneakers.

Huh. Decorative or functional? Honestly both possibilities are disturbing.

It isn't clear from the way they're standing in line. 

When it's his turn: "Speak thee now of your humble request, and in fulfilling it I'll do my best.  Not!  Hoo hoo hoo hoo," the wizard laughs.

"I would like a water bottle, please."

"And so a water bottle thou shalt receive.  Will plastic or metal be your reprieve?"

His reprieve - maybe the wizard, like Zane, speaks a different dialect of Whatever Language This Is - "Metal, thank you."

And he gets one.  Anodized in a teal and maroon diamond pattern.

"Beautiful, thank you again." And he gets out of the next person's way.

Well, it's Viralael.  "I want some more slimes."

...presumably if it's "more" slimes the wizard knows what she means and it is his understanding, not Kyeo's, that matters here.

The wizard sighs.  "You'll get better results if you use more politeness, but here are the slimes you requested, 'your highness'."

"I don't know how to do that."  But she takes the little plastic tub full of shimmery goop and heads for the door.

Kyeo's not very far ahead of her. "He probably just means you should say please and thank you."

"I've tried that.  It didn't work."

"...it didn't work?"

"He said it was rude."

"...maybe you sounded sarcastic."

"I don't really understand what that is."

"Insincere?"

"Zane-la has not tried to explain that one to me."

"Sincerity is meaning the things you say and sarcasm is a kind of not meaning what you say. People can identify it in tone of voice even if context doesn't suffice."

"I am bad at doing tone of voice in ways humans like."
