"Okay..." No parties, she's guessing.

"Will I be able to see Leia?"

"Yes."

"She can visit, including over night, so long as you complete your assigned exercises."

"Good."

She inclines her head. 

"I want you to grow strong. I - do not mean to isolate you entirely from all joy."

"Mother talks like that's a fine line to walk, sometimes."

She looks away, and doesn't answer, instead ordering Dalia to follow her. Her heavy, mechanical breaths echo loudly as she leads Dalia to their new quarters - not those Vader once shared with her own Jedi Master, but similarly isolated. 

Then, as the door seals behind them, as quietly as her vocal modulator will let her say: "Joy and power are not opposites." Almost wryly: "Both are illusions, after all."

"Is that Force philosophy?"

"In some ways."

"...Cool." She sets her bag down.

"These rooms are private," she says. "There is no surveillance within them - though there is outside of them."

"Will we be mostly staying here, or...?"

"Mostly here for your training. There are exercise rooms  that are part of this suite."

"Kay. Um... How long d'you think it'll be?"

"I was a student for over ten years," she says, wryly. "But you can leave the temple during the day, when we do not have lessons scheduled."

"We will go off planet some as well, as soon as the Emperor approves it."

Just mostly trapped, not completely trapped, then.

Dalia nods.

"...The Dark Side is - unkind," she says. "And the Emperor would not approve of me teaching you to use the Light Side, even if - I could reach it still."

"I do not want to destroy your spirit, or - lastingly harm you - though I... Do not know how to train someone to use the Dark Side without cruelty."

"We can... experiment?"

"Using the Dark Side unprepared is - unsafe."

"Unsafe how?"

"It twists your mind, and if you are uncautious enough, it will destroy your body."

"Body destruction would be bad."

Mother made this sound a lot more fun.

"It was very common for Sith masters to grow old before their time. Many sought immortality - many were killed by the same power they tried to force to their will."

"That is what the Dark Side is. That is what the Sith are. Greed, and desperate want for things you don't have, and a willingness to cross any line in pursuit of power, and cruelty and mistrust and betrayal."

"Every single Sith of the Line of Bane - the one the Emperor currently names herself the Master of - has in the end been destroyed by the works of their own hands. Each and every one has thought they would be the exception. Each and every one has been wrong."

"But... Mother's different?"

She has to be different.

Or Vader might be wrong, Dalia should remember to keep that possibility in mind. (It's harder when she's right here, though.)

"She believes she's immortal."

"She's different, perhaps, in that she will never permit those under her control to grow strong enough to challenge her, and in that she puts no real effort into preserving her apprentices' lives. She is still a Sith."

Slow nod.
