Micqui doesn't immediately tell them everything. It's okay.

Gleam starts a new sewing project. Scrounges up moonsilver wire at a thin enough gauge to be used as thread. Makes little buttons of orichalcum. Figures out a good soft stuffing medium...

She's pretty sure every good blanket fort needs an artifact stuffed tiger to guard it from nightmares. Very.

Especially after the second night Micqui has a nightmare and ends up in their bed. Gleam moves her into the nursery at that point. Helps Micqui make a blanket fort that can double as a play pen for the babies, too. (It's good the girl is getting along so well with them... For Gleam and Elathea, too. Handing her infants off to Micqui doesn't produce the same kind of sick feeling in her chest that she gets if she leaves them with a nanny for more than a few hours, especially overnight.)

...Gleam maybe has some trauma around child abandonment.

(Perhaps this will be good for her to work through some of it, then.)

Yeah.

She's doing a pretty decent job at fixing her unresolved issues - having kids has made that progression a bit wonky, they're stressful even when they're amazing, but... It's highlighted some issues, too, that were maybe underpining a lot of others. Like this one.

(Gleam's gotten really, really good at self control; she'd scared herself the first time she got enraged with frustration at how Layla just won't stop crying, and has doubled down on redirecting and preventing and operating through her anger. She'd forced herself to burst into tears that time - she's uneasy with crying, especially as an intentional strategy, but it's weirdly good for draining acute anger out - and handed Layla to a servant and fled until she'd calmed down. She hasn't had to go that far a second time, not yet.)

Elathea's temper is shorter than Gleam's- but she has fewer hangups about passing the babies off and going off to work through it alone.

Different strategies, but it's been working out. (Kiss.)

So it has.

"Love you," she murmurs.

"Love you too, dear."

Nuzzle.

It takes Micqui a little bit to work up the courage - and figure out the words - but she does eventually tell her guardians (one afternoon, while they're snuggling on the couch and she's reading out loud to the babies - she's just finished a picture book, and hasn't picked up another yet), "I wanna tell you some of the bad things Shochi did."

"All right."

She shifts to stroke Micqui's hair a bit, and to help support Samira (who's half in her lap, half in Micqui's) a bit better in case Micqui wants to curl up.

Snuggle.

"...She didn't like her fate. It was bad. But Sidereals aren't supposed to change fate. They're supposed to make sure it keeps working."

"She didn't care. She wanted someone else's fate, but that's really hard to do in a way that's real, not just playing pretend."

"Then she heard you had a spell to make a mortal bound to an Exalt. She said it was supposed to make mortals live a really long time, but she thought she could use it for other stuff, too. So she made me, and she bound me to her."

"She was planning to take my fate. Put herself in my body, with my fate, which she'd made sure was really good, and her memories. I don't think she wanted to just swap us? I think she was going to make me into her, but... I would've been gone anyways."

"It didn't work. I think. She tried." She hugs herself. "...That was really scary, and it hurt."

"But - I've got all my me, but I think I have her fate, now? - I think she messed up 'cause she didn't want to stop being a Sidereal, but I wasn't supposed to inherit her Exaltation. All the other Sidereals are really surprised."

"I don't think she put any of the being her in me, other than her fate, but - I'm scared I have some of the being her anyways. I think she was... Trying to make me very close to her, while still having a good fate, so it'd be easier?"

"That sounds like a terrible thing to experience."

Miserable nod.

"Was."

"I'm sorry you had to go through that."

"I am, too." Tight hug. "And... You're different from her in the ways that matter," she says, softly. "Everyone has some things that're similar to other people. You're you, though, more than anyone else."

Snugs. "Thanks."

"Everyone is built of their experiences. You have many more experiences ahead of you."

Small smile. "All of them."

"Just so."

Snugs. "I'm gonna be the oldest Sidereal, some day. I'll know everything."

"I'll look forward to watching that happen."

Small smile. "Sidereals are supposed to outlive Solars."

"I prefer to consider that more of a suggestion."
