"Well, no one pretends everything's okay so it's pretty much all crappy," Beth says.

    "Great way to welcome the new people," sighs Marcus.

"I mean, it wasn't all wonderful at the old place either."

"She's exaggerating," he explains. "It's not really that bad here. It's—tense, often. But not that bad."

"That's – good, I guess?" responds Anthony. "I have a feeling it's gonna get more tense. New people and all."

"Maybe. Definitely if Beth's their first introduction."

"I just mean, with people – probably not being very trusting."

"Mm, I guess."

"Not that I know the typical levels of trusting around here, or anything, but – yeah." Shrug.

"You kinda have to trust people, here. It's—been a problem, with your extraction mission, but. Can't get anything done otherwise."

"It's… yeah. I don't know how much the – general group of you – knows about it all."

"There aren't a whole lotta secrets?" says Kel. "Like, 's part of the point, is not much hierarchy, so's we're all in this together. We can all question the boss lady and she'll hear us—and give us a whoopin' if we waste her time but so it goes."

Nod. "What are the secret cabinet meetings or whatever for then?"

"They're not secret from us, you're just new," says Marcus.

    "And boss lady couldn't very well do a meeting with literally ev'ryone, she picks the most important," explains Kel.

"That makes sense, I just wasn't clear on that."

"She probably likes you, though, if she let people out of their rooms because of you," Marcus muses.

"I helped to arrange things."

    "And there's why."

Dayo looks at him a bit enamouredly.

Anthony notices and grins back.

"Doesn't seem to get me an in on the local communication, though."

Beth snorts. "You're not all that."

    "Yet," adds Marcus. "Why'd you help?"

"… What, help get people out?"

"Yeah."

Pause. "It seemed like the right thing to do?"

Beth snorts. "Yeah but lots of things are and that doesn't mean people do them."

He shrugs. "I'm pretty sure that's why I did it."

"Well, good on ya," says Kel. "You should settle down and stuff, I'm sure boss lady will want to talk to ya soon enough."

    "Wonder what the hell she's thinking, locking everyone up right after that, it'll get them to hate her," says Marcus.
