A third of the world is covered by the howling maelstrom that was born a century ago. It is not ordinarily a place you'd find people surviving, but sometimes things appear in it. Strange things - otherworldly things - brought into the mist of a howling storm of cloudy dust and wind that blows in whichever direction it wants.
"Do you remember anything else? About the wolf and how it happened that you didn't see them again?"
"Guns seem prevalent in the universe, yeah." She sighs. "It's making Eefa nervous around electrical appliances, but as far as I know Dragon didn't even come up to our floor to get the power back on, and didn't react when they encountered each other at her place. I have absolutely nothing else but Eefa's say-so to go on here. But Eefa's say-so has been pretty reliable. If there's anyone who can plausibly step in to replace Dragon if she goes on a rampage it might be good to get that set up in advance."
"We'd have to shut down the electrical grid and most manufacturing. And I'm skeptical we could keep the plumbing running smoothly for very long."
"She doesn't have assistants, apprentices? - honestly that's pretty bad even if she never has a breakdown, she could just get sick."
"She has apprentices who can handle very scaled back versions of the things, but not who can handle keeping the current setup running safely without her. We've been expanding pretty fast and I keep expecting things to slow to the point where other people can catch up to her in understanding how to keep everything running but it hasn't happened it yet.... it's definitely not ideal."
"I guess me and Eefa could... go on... vacation...? I don't like that idea either though, there's a lot of variables in travel."
"I don't think it's safe for you to travel with Salazar Wendigo looking for you. Not that it's all that safe to travel normally."
"That too. Do you have any way to guess if Dragon might have previously heard of Eefa, such that it should be less alarming for them now to have seen one another..."
"Someone could have mentioned that the deputy mayor has a kid? But I don't think it's likely."
"But not in an - identifying - way - I guess I have no idea what any of these people are using to go on when they target her. I don't suppose you know, kiddo?"
