A third of the world is covered by the howling maelstrom that was born a century ago. It is not ordinarily a place you'd find people surviving, but sometimes things appear in it. Strange things - otherworldly things - brought into the mist of a howling storm of cloudy dust and wind that blows in whichever direction it wants.
Eefa... does not know what she is feeling, tucked away from the world in Pelape's arms. It's like the opposite of running and trying to escape. She wonders if there's a word for it.
Attn. Dragon,
It has come to my attention that you may belong to a mysterious group of individuals interested in, for undisclosed reasons, attacking my child. I obviously can't have that, but I'm very interested in any information you might be able to provide about the nature of this group and its interests (or only yours specifically), mitigations that might assist you in remaining a law abiding member of the community, etc.
I also separately recommend that you build more personnel redundancy into your essential functions (water power etc.).
- Pelape Milath
...she should actually change her jobname but nobody here knows what it means anyway.
She'll post that first thing in the morning.
Dragon's reply comes later the next day.
Hello Pelape,
I'm not aware you have a child. Of course, I am happy to teach anyone interested in apprenticing with me - please do forward any promising candidates!
- Dragon
"-that's odd both given the phrasing and how unhelpful it is - even if she didn't know Eefa I'd expect her to say more than that. ..has she met Eefa?"
"She has to have seen her briefly at the - I guess I don't know that she was paying any attention, necessarily. Eefa saw her."
"I...am worried about this. Not that I was really any less worried about it before."
"I've already reccomended all the potential candidates I knew about, most of who are now apprenticing for her. If anyone promising shows up at the market feel free to refer them? Dragon pays a small stipend."
"Will do. ...I really don't know what to make of this letter, though. Mine was not long, it wouldn't have been trivial to just miss the part where I'm worried she's about to become an axe murderer."
"It is possible she was very very busy and misread it. Or that she is already an axe murderer in which case I have no idea what she would do, since it seems so antithetical to everything about her."
"Yeah. I'm going to keep trying, it just feels prudent to have more eyes on it."
Attn. Dragon,
Your reply ignores the main point of my original letter. Did you perhaps skim it too quickly?
- Pelape Milath
No, I read it. I am not aware that you have a child and it is difficult to respond to the remainder given this.
- Dragon
Dragon doesn't respond for another two days, until:
It seems that I have neglected to respond to your previous letter. I apologize for this.
??????????????
"So now I'm worried that she is doing some kind of elaborate psychological balancing act to avoid the axe murder thing but I don't know how stable it is!" she concludes, upon explaining this to Laithan.
"Yeah... I checked in on one of her apprentices earlier and they said that she's seemed stressed, and that she missed a day of work without explanation, which never happens."
