They will stay over here then.

"When did the last one show up?"

"Five weeks. Beetle thing, blended into the shadows, couldn't get a good picture of it."

"How do you get time to take pictures in between fighting it, anyway?"

"Do not underestimate our desire for selfies. But seriously, the people that runs our security can give support and sometimes take pictures as long they don't hurt the creatures."

"Oh, of course." Pause. "Why do the monsters leave the surrounding area dead if someone else kills them?"

"Oh, the vault can sort of connect to living things in the area. It's rare to do a magical effect to do that without a caster guiding it. And one of the reasons why this place was not bombed into oblivion, yet."

Then he is busy with proper casting.

"People want to eventually figure out how it works." Aaron explains.

"You can use the lifeforce of other living things if you use a ritual to drain. It's just not advised, because to manipulate it you have to get it into your own lifeforce, and that can be as dangerous as mixing animal blood into your own blood."

He tries not to move too much, not knowing how still he needs to be for this.

"'Bombed to oblivion'. Would that have actually helped? I was sort of getting the sense that the vault isn't exactly physical?"

Aaron makes a so-so gesture. "It's anchored to the land and if you add or remove bits of it the physical connection changes to accommodate the change. But if you do it fast enough - such as with enough dynamite - the effect breaks. The lifeforce vault would be gone, there would be a huge crater and the sudden die off of the entire nature as far the eye can see, alongside any humans not evacuated."

"Pleasant." Pause. "Sort of sounds like that dead city. It would drain the surrounding area?"

"You are not wrong. Though, the dead city's goal was more benign. Just slowly stockpiling power so you can have buildings that fix themselves. A lot of the vault's features are just kind of 'fuck you, people'."

Snort. "Yeah, I've been getting that idea."

Jamie has been following along while also paying close attention to what Temple is doing. "How long does this take?" He asks. His tone isn't impatient, he's just curious.

Squint. "I think the analysis part already started, and he is doing is casting some modal parts of the ritual to figure something out."

Temple speaks up. "There is some weird interactions with the fact that they are twins, and I was triple checking it doesn't mean that they count as one person or as an error and thus defaulting to zero."

"Really? Huh. We're not a glitch, though?"

"And it recognizes us as relatives?"

"It does!"

"Great!"

Alex smiles, "Good to know we weren't wrong."

"Yeah!" He shifts a bit, "Can we move now?"

"You can."

"Hug!"

Hug. Is Temple close enough to be reeled into the hug as well, because Temple: also deserves hugs. Oh, and Aaron too!
