He's amused, "If by pressure you mean pain-" he chuckles, "Well, how intense is it?"

"I once heard it describe as a toddler trying to hold onto you very tightly because they are afraid to fall."

He nods, "That's perfectly fine then - should I try them here?"

"Sure." He puts one down and lifts the other. "Turn around. I will put in your back."

And, presuming cooperation, he does. There are four blunt hooks, two on each side that apply some kind of magnetic pressure against his back. "Okay, this is promising. It recognized you as something that can use it."

He cooperates.

Once they're on, he peers over his shoulder to look.

"How do I move them?" He asks. Is it straightforward? Can he just move them by wanting to do so, or is it more complicated?

"You have to do it very deliberately. And you don't need to flap them to fly, but it helps with moving around and keeping speed. Don't take of here, though."

If he pays attention, there is a feeling, somewhat associated with the pressure of his back and similar to the notion of being able one's arms. Except diminished, closer to the feeling of knowing one could move their outermost fingers.

He hums, paying attention to that feeling. Carefully, he tries to move them just a bit at a time, stretching them out slowly in the space on either side of him.

Good. "Now try to move one arm up and one wing down at same time. Keep the other arm and wing still."

He does so, grinning a bit. It requires some focus - but he manages it. He tries the other side as well, and then carefully practises moving his arms and the wings separately in a number of ways.

And he gives some more instructions. "Okay, that should be enough. We should go to a field and practice actual flight."

He nods, still grinning, though- "I should - check to see if they're drawing off my pool, and how much-"

He checks, doing a brief breathing exercise to focus on his pool. Are they using his mana? How much?

There is a steady flow of mana being siphoned by the wings, yes. Zephyrinus taps a wing himself and it sparks lightly, Jaim can feel it, but very dully. "Huh, it appears to be able to feed on your mana, but it isn't... being very efficient about it. Don't try to push more mana into now, but we should test to see if you can."

He nods, "I am still recovering from mana depletion," he agrees. "That's an experiment best saved for later, I believe."

He glances towards the tent flap, "Shall we go? We can find an empty field," he says.

"Lets." And they go, with Zephyrinus taking the other wing-pair under his arm, and of course with one on his back.

Hm, he wonders if he has a plan for that other set.

He leads Zephyrinus out to a field at the south-west corner of the fort. Just about everyone they pass stops to stare, and many of those who are off-duty follow them out to the field, standing at the edges to watch curiously. Jaim makes a subtle face at this, but shrugs it off.

He stretches the wings out all the way once they get there, "There's no need to flap, you said - how do they work then?" He asks.

"You know the pressure that the wings are causing on your back? Think that you're causing something similar to happen but emanating from your wings tips and going outwards."

Hmmm... Pressure going outwards from the wingtips...

It's surprisingly intuitive.

He lifts off the ground. His grin is pretty irrepressible at this point.

"Okay, good. Now come down. Small steps." He says going up himself.

Aw.

He does come back down, though.

"What kind of steps?" He asks, shifting on his feet - he is restraining a bounce just barely.

"Just basic flying tips. I know you are not a kid, but I still feel obliged to teach you like one, I figure you don't have it formalize here, the land of wingless people."

He shakes his head, "There aren't any single spells suited for flying, below third tier" he says, "If I want to do it I have to combine a few in odd ways - which is expensive - or freecast - which is dangerous."

"More reason to be careful then."

"True enough," he agrees.

He listens carefully to the flying tips, committing them to memory.

And then flying?

And then flying!

Eeee!

He flies up - though not too far up. Fort Kiat looks smaller than the fortress toy he had as a child, when he stops, hovering above it. He looks out, over the landscape, seeing the Yilan Mountains rising from the Kiat Foothills to the west, the vast plains to the east, the deep woods spotted with lakes to the north, and a glimpse of the ocean to the south. The world is so beautiful, spread out like this.
