It's not like they have been keeping their schedules rigid. So, they can talk. Or rather. They can send signals based on how long they hold onto a power. And use that to do a binary search on the alphabet. Which lets them communicate.

Well, it's good that he found comfort in Jaim and managed to rescue the Wanderer from isolation.

But the entire business with having an even larger target in his back is concerning.

Absolutely, they would like to do something about the situation.

"Well, that was somewhat predictable. At least one of my brothers is going to hurry up and get a new shape. Which means I should acquire one in a few days. The other is looking into how I fell in this world."

"How did you fall into this world?" Wanderer asks, emotions tilting mostly towards curiosity. "I thought all the world doors had been closed."

"Oh, it wasn't through a world door. Instead, I just went through a crack in a large rock to pick something up. I had a moment of disorientation and then I found myself in a battlefield nearby... the point of entrance between two worlds has some latent magic and from what I remember both sides are surprisingly similar. I even though I had taken a step back somehow."

"That's very strange!" They say, fascinated, "I've never heard of anything like it before. But, maybe a Space mage could do it?"

"We considered the possibility that it was something to do with being near this ruin. But we don't know."

"Something to do with the world door, or maybe even the phase-shift..." They pause, emotions turning reflective. "Well, I've never encountered anything like this, but then I've never tried being just-out-of-phase with the rest of the world in a City with a world door before, either. You could be right!" They think on it for a little longer, and then turn their thoughts to other things.

"Would you like to practice controlling the City, now?"

"I would love to. Show me how, please."

"Alright! You need to be touching me, for this, and it's easiest if I stay in the pedestal," they wait for him to grab hold of their form. Assuming he does so, they continue, "You can feel my mana, right? It should sort of... feel, like thick liquid or light? It's hard to describe. Some of my wielders have told me using Air mana reminds them of tasting something light and sweet, while Water is fresh and cool. Most everyone associates them with colours, too - orange for Air, blue for Water."

Zephyrinus takes a hold of the spear. And feels for his mana, trying to feel the associated sensations.

He'll be able to feel the first sensation within his own self, in his growing pool of mana. Focusing on it evokes the feeling of dipping a hand into a bowl of warm cream, perhaps, the mana clinging to his attention, practically begging to be used. He can also feel Wanderer's mana, once he's touching them, a far vaster pool of Air and Water, as they'd said. Focusing on their pool evokes sense-memories - the taste of clean, purified water, the feeling of cool ice on his skin, wind under his wings, a fresh breeze on his face. Further, through this connection, he can feel the deep wells of the City's mana reservoirs, the veins spreading out from them and, more faintly, if he focuses, the movement of the air and water throughout it.

This is fascinating and far more friendly than his own magic. He enjoys the entirely non-painful magical interaction for a bit and the feedback he gets it from it all.

They enjoy his enjoyment! They can't focus on him so much as to really enjoy an emotional feedback loop, though, which is a shame. Happiness is a good one.

"Good!" They say after a bit, "So, that's my mana, and my City's mana, which might as well be mine, actually. So long as I'm in range, I can control all of the Water and Air mana in the veins here, and all the runes as well. That's how I control the wards, and open doors, and speak. And you can, too, so long as you're touching me!"

"You need to know how to control your own, first, though," they add.

"Okay. How do I do that?"

"Meditation, is the first step," they tell him. "Even if you can follow my mana to your own core, you'll need to learn how to find it without my help. I can go over the basic technique for you, if no one has already?"

"They hadn't, no. We didn't assume I would develop a mana pool."

"I guess that makes sense!" They giggle a bit, "It's pretty surprising, to meet someone who didn't have one and to have them develop one!" They'll go over the breathing exercise for him, then. First, get into a comfortable position. Breathe deeply and evenly, focusing on the diaphragm. Eventually, especially if he pays attention to the bond with Wanderer, he should be able to locate his pool beneath it.

This is very different from his own magic, not that he is complaining with this much more gentle system. He eventually locates his pool.

Good! (Their happiness can be felt quite strongly this close.) If he focuses on his pool, it should feel like... dipping a metaphorical hand into a metaphorical pool of warm, clingy fluid. He can sort of... pull some of that fluid into his grip, and then there's a way of twisting it into a usable thread, called spinning. They'll do it themself, using their own pool, to show him what they mean. It might take him a couple tries, but it's not too difficult - people can learn to do it as children.

It takes him three times, too much force into it, that's the problem, but he gets the hang of it. With just a bit of irritation.

Affection-consolation(-happiness-excitement!), they send. They'd give him an air hug, but they don't want to distract him.

Next is refining. It's the most personal step of the process - different for most everyone, even perfect matches might vary in the specifics at first. He can start with whichever colour he wants. The process involves focusing on feelings, sensations, and memories which the type of magic brings to mind, while holding a thread in his metaphorical grip. Cool, watery thoughts for Water, warm firey thoughts for Fire, growing, healing thoughts for Life, and so on. He can also cheat using the feel of Wanderer's magic, but of course that only works for refining Water and Air.

Eventually he'll be able to refine all the colours just by thinking of the feel of the magic itself, but it's the long way for now.

"Unless, maybe, your magic gives you a shortcut," they add thoughtfully. "If you think about the way wielding fire magic feels, while holding a thread, that might work too!"

"Would you be able to put out a fire real quick? I don't think my own magic will help much with yours, but I would hate to be wrong."

"Yes, I can put out fires," they assure him.
