"Enough for... what? If the comprehensibility thing still works?"

"Enough for it to not be magically obvious that it's imperfect."

"Huh. How hard do you think it would be to conventionally manufacture a correct glyph?"

"I don't know! Probably not too hard, the ones I make with my wand are fine."

"It'd be fun if you could, like, 3D print them and put them up as informative signage - does it work on people who can't read at all?"

"...Huh! I sort of expect it would, but I'm not sure."

"Ren could bring one in to her kindergarteners... except that's very much like experimenting on children, probably she shouldn't do that."

"Yikes, yeah, I can't imagine it would hurt the kiddos but let's draw the line a very generous distance away from actual harm."

"I was mostly thinking about it as a PR minefield because I feel no trepidation about myself looking at the written form of the thing you've spoken several of... whatever the unit of meaning is in that language... at me, but that too."

"Well, fair, but they're sorta the same thing from my perspective, like, if it gets out that I did Thing, I expect this to result in some very stupid people wanting to know how I can object to them doing Thing, and if the two things are only technically the same thing and actually completely different I do not expect to be able to get this through their head. All the worlds contain many wonders, but also, some astonishingly creatively stupid people."

"There really are."

"I would like them all to be okay forever and far away from the controls for anything important and maybe with time they'll grow out of it. Like. Some of them, anyway."

"Nothing in your bag of tricks about that?"

"--I have things in my bag of tricks about immortality, I don't have things in my bag of tricks about making people use immortality to grow the fuck up. Possibly there is a way to do that that isn't mind control but if there is I don't know 'er."

"Aw, I would like my very own magic intelligence hat if those were a thing."

"--Making people smarter is, like, plausibly a thing, but like, if you are making someone smarter with the intention that this will turn them into a person who will make different decisions and have different values than they have now, that sounds, uh, sketchy as fuck?"

"Hmm, I think making an intelligence hat available for consensual acquisition with full disclosure of its parameters is still fine even if you have this ulterior motive for doing so. Obviously I would not go around shoving them onto people's heads."

"Oh, for sure, but like. Not everyone is going to take the hat."

"They will not, but if there are enough hats in circulation it will become a mark of status and superiority to have one!"

"I sure hope so. It'll be important to make sure the hats have the right kind of intelligence boosting, though, you can get real good at, like, math, and still make completely inexplicable life choices."

"Is that a known problem in locales with intelligence hats?"

"It is a known problem in locales without intelligence hats! But also yes emphatically moreso, in this one world they basically divide mental capacity into sensibleness, ability to juggle complex concepts including but not limited to math, and social skills, and you can boost any of them independently, and there are, like, memes, about the risks of having too much more of two than one."

"No exciting failure modes for excess sensibleness or social skills?"

"Excess sensibleness no, excess social skills some but, you see, if you are making mistakes because you are too good at persuading other people that things are a good idea, the people around you are less likely to make fun of you than if you are making mistakes because you were asking if you could make dinosaurs out of mosquito rocks and not whether you should."

"Jurassic Park isn't just here, then."
