"Fair enough! You get mana from just sort of being an agape-ish person, right? What helps you with that, do you need to, like, meditate, or peoplewatch, or anything?"

"I will try those and get back to you on it. Not, like, right now, but at some point."

"I appreciate your sense of timing."

"If I were an esper my backlash would not be losing my sense of timing! Probably. It'd be a hell of a coincidence."

"It would be! ...since we don't know how espers work we can't rule out that you could have an awakening now that you're here."

"Well, if that happens, I sincerely hope it has the good timing to wait until after I know if I can clear backlash or not."

"It happens within a fairly narrow age band and I have no idea how that would interact with any of the various ages you could be construed to be."

"Orrrr how it interacts with, uh, nonsenescence. I do not know for a fact that I won't age past the point where I am but, like, a buncha me wouldn't have, so. I'm pretty sure it's less of a divergence from humanity than the wings are."

"Espers get to be in excellent health without having to maintain it much but we do age like a normal very healthy human."

"There are kinds of people out there who don't age past maturity at all! There are kinds of people out there that don't have the concept of aging past maturity."

"Lucky them!"

"Yeah, speaking of things in want of a scalable solution."

"How's your magical smorgasbord in terms of terraforming or faster than light travel or any of that cool shit?"

"Not terrible? I mean, it's very much not the focus of my power, I wouldn't be surprised if some other magical girl is better at it once there are more, but I can teleport and I can do some neat stuff with plants."

"Whoa, what are the limits on teleportation?"

"Right now I can only go about a hundred meters at a time but I expect to be able to grow that."

"You'd have to be able to grow it fuck of a lot to handle interstellar. Easier or harder than interdimensional?"

"...Good question, I don't know. I expect that deriving interstellar FTL from my teleport to involve iterating on it conceptually to create a new spell, not to work by expanding the range of the spell I have now. And for interdimensional I would try to iterate off my pocket dimension. Or if I can figure out something interesting about dungeons, maybe."

"What would the iteration process be like?"

"...I have an intuition for that but unfortunately the brain manual is not actually made of words so I might need to actually try it before I can come up with an explanation that makes sense to anyone who is not me. Orrrrr possibly I could use the magic language about it. I don't know if the magic language works over the phone."

"Oooooh tell me about the magic language? Try it and see?"

"Remember when I said that I had a magically attached name, and 'Magical Girl Ascendant Lucy' was an English translation of it?"

"Sounds familiar!"

"Right, so, the kind of Magical Girl I am comes with a magic language, that--is magically comprehensible and also packs a lot of layers of meaning into every word. The original version is [Magical]* [Girl]** [Ascendant]*** [Lucy]****"

*Magical both in the sense of being magic, breaking the laws of physics and such, but also in the more figurative sense of being really cool and emotionally moving, like sunsets and soap bubbles can be magical despite definitely not being supernatural.
**Suffix denoting a bearer of the preceding characteristic; connotationally but not denotationally feminine.
***The process of transitioning into a greater, more actualized version of oneself; most centrally implies increasing in capability but, like, going to therapy doesn't not count.
****The person that she and all her component selves are/have been

"I think that works over phones! That's so cool and I don't know how to pronounce any of it."
