"I'm sure there are, but I haven't read them.'

"I want books like the everyone-has-to-get-gay-married series! Except with sex. And people hurting each other. And maybe sometimes they have sex with other people."

"We can go to the bookstore and try looking in the 18+ section together?"

"But I'm not 18. Are you 18?"

"I'm barely 16 but they don't actually check or anything, you can totally just step over the rope."

"We should!"

(Sasha wants to talk to him! He bounces.)

"They'll be closed pretty soon, but tomorrow," he says, and kisses Kaleva on the cheek.

"Tomorrow!"

"I wonder when Chen is going to come."

"Probably whatever day people in normal school don't have school?"

"So two days, unless he skips. --At least the sex books will be distracting."

"At least," he agrees, and takes Kaleva's hand and squeezes.

They should cuddle and Kaleva should pet his hair and they should talk about science fiction.

That sounds like an excellent set of plans.

(His main opinion about science fiction is that it is really frustrating how self-evident Auradonians seem to think their society and values are; the rest isn't window dressing but it's secondary.)

This is in fact incredibly frustrating! Sociological science fiction is Kaleva's favorite kind.

He also has fond memories of a bunch of truly awful science fiction he read as a teenager, and keeps discovering that he probably liked things because they were gay.

The really frustrating thing is that so many of these stories could be so interesting if they didn't go "but obviously everyone in the universe thinks exactly the same way we do, or else they're either lying to themselves or deliberately being evil for the sake of it"!

Kaleva completely agrees. Sasha is so correct about science fiction.

...Maybe Sasha should write some science fiction.

Maybe he should try, anyway.

That is an extremely good idea. Kaleva can edit it and also check that his orbital mechanics are correct.

(Bounce bounce bounce.)

So in his concept, which he's not really sure about but it's a first pass, has people in relationships that have four people in them, because that's how many people it takes to make a household that functions and a group that can cover for itself, and it's casually assumed that everyone is attracted to all genders, and they're humans but they're not on the same planet as Auradon and he isn't going to bother with orbital mechanics because the real point is his main character figuring out that actually he's only attracted to men after getting himself into a relationship with his three best friends all of whom are girls, and —

This is a good idea and Kaleva wants to read it. He has so many questions. What happens if you only meet one person you like, can you not get married then? What is the tech level? What are the economics like? (Can Kaleva figure out the orbital mechanics for his own gratification. Also the economics. Also the population dynamics.)

Nope, can't have a group of less than four people, no exceptions, but you could find another pair of people in the same boat and then all four of you get married. The tech level is.... they have some space travel but they're only on the one planet, and their trains use this idea with magnets he read about in a book one time so they're super fast, and if they're using magnets for hovering trains probably they have hovering other things, like skateboards or those shoes with wheels on them. They use money like Auradon does, not bartering like the Isle.

If he is not distracted from this task Kaleva is going to start drawing diagrams of their economy and occasionally asking random questions like what the price of wheat is.

That's adorable and Kaleva can definitely do that but Sasha has, like, maybe a third of an idea what wheat is.

Wheat is what you make bread from!

(Sasha is extremely good.)
