Technically the relevant ability doesn't create water, it just brings it up from deep beneath the sands.

She shakes her head. "Now come back to the stockroom, I've lost half a day's sales to my argument with Summer and I'm going to need you if we're going to make taxes."

That's at least something she can do without needing to figure out which of the dozen things she's sorry for to apologize for first.

Phee will follow her back in and do whatever Eva directs her to.

Once they get back to the shop, Eva hands Phee one of the trashy romance novels.

"Dictate to me the fate of Mr. Richy Richboy and his coquettish fiancee. — That is, read me the novel and I'll write it down."

She would ask if there'd be a lesbian novel she could dictate instead, but well look at the state the rest of her is in.

And the HP of her relationship with Eva is well into the negatives, and she really does not want to do anything that might be the final fraction of a point that kills it.

Yeah.

Phee will monotonously recite the text of whatever Eva hands her.

And Eva writes, at least until Phee's voice starts getting tired.

Gradually, her sulk burns out.

"I, uh..." Eva looks up at Phee. "You can stop now."

She sighs. "You seem pretty petrified that I'll hate you or something. You've barely been putting any inflection into the reading and I can tell you're scared out of your skin."

"I'm disappointed, yeah, but it seems pretty clear you know you fucked up. Can you breathe with me for a second and talk it over? I don't want to leave this unsettled between us long-term, and there's important things we need to learn about each other still and... just a lot of things."

Eva manages an uncertain smile. "Like, I'm not going to pretend I'm unaffected by you literally NTRing me in your first day here, but that was a lot more Summer's fault than yours and I'd like to see if we can still be friends. So let's discuss."

She stops at Eva's prompting.

You've barely been putting any inflection into the reading and I can tell you're scared out of your skin.

I'll add lack of inflection when reading and tricking you into thinking we're capable of feeling fear to the list of things we need to apologize for.

I'd like to see if we can still be friends.

Phee would really like that too.

So let's discuss.

"O-okay! s-sure of course!"

"S-should I start apologizing for everything now, or um?"

Eva laughs quietly. "Sure, that's as good a place as any to start."

Weak smile at her laughter.

"I'm sorry for" entering your life "not thinking about your feelings and what you'd want, for not putting more effort into trying to figure out and keep in mind your feelings preferences when you went non-verbal, for not leaving right away when I walked in on you having sex and instead staying in place staring, for propositioning your girlfriend right in front of you while you were non-verbal instead of just continuing to hug you like you asked for, for not thinking at all about whether you'd be okay with me having sex with her and in front of you at that, for not following after you when you ran away or just moving to stay somewhere I'd be available for emotional venting or confrontation if you decided you wanted that either of which would've been better of me to do then continuing to have sex, for trying to enter your pocket dimension when I went looking for you, for making your girlfriend have sex with me instead of tending to you, for not having more inflection when i was reading that book for you, for acting afraid, for not getting you more papers, and for everything else I should be sorry but am too much of an idiot to remember or think of in the first place."

"... I feel like you're apologizing for too many things but you hit the important things."

Eva takes a breath.

"So basically I'm disappointed because you went for the sex when I was obviously distressed instead of checking in. That's a skill to develop, and Summer was asking, but still, next time be more careful. I don't know what kind of background on consent you have but I think you get that was bad."

She sighs. "Once you saw, well, you weren't going to un-see it. So I don't actually mind the staring, and I think it's more Summer's fault than yours that things went sideways with the sex. The rest of it — the reading, the acting afraid, the papers, trying to enter the pocket dimension, and so on — all that I think you shouldn't apologize for, you haven't wronged me by any of that. If I'd had the pocket dimension set to invite guests I would have wanted you to try, and you did bring me paper even when I didn't offer to pay for it, and acting scared or talking monotone is — I think you need better friends if you expect to actually need to apologize for those things."

Eva manages an awkward smile. "So, firstly... I forgive you. I think you were pretty much hijacked by Summer being right there and asking, and while it was bad of you not to check in that's not, like. I don't consider you to have done that deliberately. Summer can be very persuasive when she wants something. And while it does make me feel a little jealous of you that you got Summer to lay you so easily when she was supposed to be my girlfriend, I... don't really endorse that feeling, because it's Summer's damn fault that she cared more about her next orgasm than about me, and you... just happened to be convenient."

Eva coughs into her hand.

"So yeah. Obviously this whole thing is awkward as hell but fuck it, it's the pink desert, if you hung around here for long you were always going to catch me in flagrante delicto. So if you want to make it up to me you can give me a hug and help me make my taxes in three more days. Alright?"
