(He thinks these people are crazy but it's not like he doesn't deal with crazy people all the time. At least these ones are being reasonable about it.)

The palace is unusually pretty for a human palace. It also has guards. The guards don't particularly appear to be human.

That's interesting. If they're dreamshaped Cam probably can't make them. " - are they dreamshaped?"

"Tempted to do something dramatic and wait for an invitation in, but dreamshaping makes it at least a little harder to impressively be a demon at first glance."

"Being able to produce things on-demand might be convincing?"

"Probably. Question is, who do we convince?"

"Yeah, it sort of doesn't work with a nonparticipatory audience, huh..."

He asks the dreamshaped guards if they can have an audience with someone.

The dreamshaped guards turn their faces towards him but have no other reaction.

Maybe if they loiter there'll be non-dreamshaped guards.

Not really, no. Differently-shaped dreamshaped guards come out at one point, at which the first ones dissolve into smoke and disappear, but no non-dreamshaped guards show up.

People enter and leave occasionally, though. The ones coming in enunciate their names clearly to the guards, who pause for a few seconds before letting them pass.

Copying the names is probably a terrible idea. After a while he does stop a person and ask how to get an audience.

"...Uh, with who, for what?"

"To demonstrate that we can make things we haven't dreamed and make them persistent, and anyone who might be interested."

"...Really? How'd you do that? Anyway, this is the palace, it sounds like you want the University."

"We'd like to make some agreements with your government."

"...Like what."

"We'd like to set up an embassy here, maybe build some hospitals."

"Um, if you're representing a foreign power that's--a different thing--what country are you from?"

"We're from a different world. There're other planets around other suns..."

"...Uh. Okay. Um, I can direct you to--someone--but you wouldn't start off at the palace--if I give you an address can you find your way there--"
