I have some reservations about the ways demons have used that ability on Endorë - in particular, I will look into ensuring that people cannot have versions of other people made for themselves. I am sure there is a way to prevent that without preventing all resurrections.

If there's not?

That would be concerning; I will discuss it with my brethren. You seem likely to understand what is objectionable about permitting people to try demon after demon until they get one willing to hand them a personal copy of someone they desire, or a version missing the most recent century, or a version who has been through the torments of Angband and is accordingly pliable...

Yes. But I'm not sure Valar in general understand what is objectionable about reading the private thoughts of the dead and restoring them to life contingent only on editing, and I'd be more confident in striking a balance between these concerns if mine were represented to speak of.

One solution that might satisfy is that demons be permitted only to resurrect the dead, as they were at the point of death. Mandos could continue to heal those who on death desired it, but if they did not desire his healing they could instead be restored exactly as they were using the current method.

Death here meaning pre-Angband-upload? Would this prevent use of uploads for benign purposes?

Mandos will check with those who most recently were conscious in Angband - he can check without making them conscious again - and heal them and restore them to life if any of them so desire. But for the restrictions on daeva, yes.

I have fewer reservations about people requesting copies of themselves, but not none, and that would probably be temporarily halted by the proposed set of restrictions, yes.

Will you be able to apply these restrictions to the daeva's own worlds, and the other world to which they're sometimes summoned?

If it is in my power I want to stop the Eldar from being creatable in the daeva worlds at all. I'm not yet sure if it is in my power. There is a great deal to process anew, here.

That would alleviate some concerns about containing the information on how to perform the resurrections.

...can be done. Not by me, alone, I don't think, not without a few Ages of work, but when my brethren are restored it could be done instantaneously.

You're sure you can make accurate predictions about what they'll do and if I bring Mandos back he won't just say, I don't know, 'no, I like editing people'...?

He will say that the duty Eru gave him is not lightly discharged but that in Arda Unmarred it would never be necessary anyway and he certainly will not grieve if it never is.

If you're sure.

One of the things I like best about the design of Dwarves is that they're made to be safe from that sort of thing.

I agree.

I can move the Valar and Maiar here when I get them out of the black hole; am I right that this is the right place to put them?

Yes. Here is the closest thing to what they remember. If they decide to build anew they'll do it in consultation with the incarnate population.

I would also like a guarantee of the safety and freedom of the person who placed the black hole. He would have done without given another way to neutralize the Enemy and wants nothing more than for me to undo the damage for him.

In something that grave I am not sure I should simply take your word for it.

What would you prefer?

Speaking with him would be useful.

I'd fetch him but he isn't popular on this planet - here - Cam is now within osanwë range. Not on the planet, just within osanwë range. She, lacking osanwë, switches to speaking by illusion, confined to avoid eavesdropping Afterlifers. "Cam, Aulë wants to talk to you. Aulë's the one who invented Dwarves, if you don't have them memorized."

Uh. Hello. ...Dwarves are cool.

Thank you. It seems my counterpart in this world had less capacity at his disposal to do right by them. If he had given them the afterlife I developed for mine, you might have had more choices.

I, uh, got them all piggybacked on my afterlife once I could do that and I think the Enemy avoided killing people who couldn't be backed up as frequently to avoid provoking me.
