"He's really good at it, I bet you'll like it."

"Mmhmm!"

After a while, the bus arrives, and they can head to Kaylee's house.

With no secret telepathic discussion of spying on Kyubey, it's a pretty regulation bus ride!

They arrive, and Kaylee shows Lianne inside, and yells hello to her dad, who emerges from the kitchen.

"Welcome home, Kaylee.  And you must be Lianne!"  He sticks out a hand to shake.

"Hi! You must be Kaylee's dad! Nice to meet you!" She shakes his hand.

"Oh gosh, I never told you my parents' names, did I?"

"You can call me Rob," her dad says.  "Nice to meet you too.  Did Kaylee tell you I'm making pizza?"

"Yeah! Homemade pizza sounds good."

"I'm glad," Rob says.  "Help yourself to anything in the fridge, but be sure to save room.  What do you like on your pizza?"

"Just about anything! I don't like onions, but other than that, I can have what other people are having."

"Traditionally we do one with pepperoni and one with olives and everybody mixes and matches," Kaylee says.

"I'll let Kaylee show you around," Rob says.

"That sounds fine to me!" Then, to Kaylee, "So, tour of the house?"

"Sure!"

It's a nice house, roomy, with a cozy living room and a nice dining room and a couple bedrooms upstairs.

She shows Lianne to her room.  It's tidy, especially for a teenager's bedroom.  The walls are painted robin's egg blue, and the ceiling is spangled with those glow-in-the-dark decorative stars.  Her desk is stacked with notebooks.  There's a music stand and a wooden chair in one corner, and a beanbag chair and a blanket next to the small bookshelf in the other.

"Cozy! What sort of music do you play?"

"I mean, mostly whatever we have to play for orchestra."  She laughs.  "I'm not sure whether I'm gonna keep it up after high school or not."

"That's fine. I don't think I'll take up competitive running after high school, either. What're you playing right now?"

"A lot of, like, classical stuff - we're playing part of Mozart's Symphony number 25, that's the one the movie Amadeus opens with."

"Cool! That must be fun. Do you guys put on a performance?"

"We do a couple!  One in February and one at the end of the year.  At my last school we did a Christmas recital but I guess we skipped that this year for some reason, I don't remember exactly why."

"I'll be sure to come, if you don't mind."

"Yeah, I'd like that."

"I don't know that I've ever been to an orchestra. It'll be fun! And I'll get to see you in action."

She giggles.  "They're nice, if you like classical music."

"I like the epic kind that gets into movies and video games! Not so much the slow kind though."

"Some of it's epic!  At least somewhat epic.  I think for the end-of-year recital we're gonna learn a string-orchestra arrangement of the Star Wars theme, but that's not till May."

"Cool.

She laughs.  "I'm looking forward to it."
