"I think the safety of the children matters more than a bunch of trees!" Cayden says and then immediately concludes that his absence of Wisdom has once again outpaced his Splendor.

"I remain unsurprised that you care more about these interlopers than about the sanctity of this Grove."

"KAGHA."

The circle of druids is starting to split- not in half, but two thirds in favour of Halsin.

This... does not look like it's coming to a peaceful ending.

There in the shadows of the room, something moves. It might just be a trick of the light? It might be someone using an invisibility spell.

"I think there's someone using an invisibility spell over there!" he shouts, because Good Party Communication Is Important.

The invisibility drops, and there's a dwarfism woman and several wolves. She's dressed as a druid, and wolves have that slightly top intelligent look of a wildshaped animal. "Kagha. It might be best if some things are pruned."

Things like... civilians?

A bunch of druids are very rapidly wild shaping! Including Halsin! So the answer appears to be yes, most likely.

The invisible druid is definitely dressed differently.

All right! Time to stick people with the pointy end!

The scene is chaotic. The room is big, but not big to contain bears and wolves and boars and a human with a sword all fighting each other.

This might be a problem for someone who hasn't been adventuring for multiple decades, and also can't do backflips over a bear.

There's losses on Halsin and Cayden's side, but they have the advantage of both Cayden and numbers.

There's a moment, after the battle, where the survivors all stare at the dead.

"Shadow druids," someone says.

Either Kagha's left eyebrow is incredibly fascinating, or he's at a loss for words.

"I'm not from this plane, what's a shadow druid?"

"They are a group of druids who do not believe that nature and civilisation can ever come to a balance. We-- do not welcome them into our Grove."

"I always thought that was normal druids. --Uh, not that I mean to say anything against druids as people."

He's still just... stating at the corpse of Kagha. "There is a difference between protecting nature and killing children to do it."

He puts a hand sympathetically on Halsin's shoulder.

"I was the one who made her my second in command."

"You couldn't have known."

"I was he teacher, I should have." He turns away from her. "Forgive me, we still have work to do."

Sometimes, when someone is grieving, what they need is a task.

He follows Halsin in search of tasks.

There's bringing the tieflings back in and reassuring them the druids don't want them dead! There's preparing the Grove's defenses because the goblins know where it is now!

He's good at soothing but probably not in a very relevant way. He goes off to prepare the defenses and offer some of his hard-earned wisdom from all the times he hasn't died.
