The Valar announce that they've done as much as they can in Singularity (they can't bring back peoples' babies in that critical period either, but they can get them earlier versions) and are setting up portals between there and Sanity as soon as they are confident they've cleaned up the plague. A bunch of Elf architects have this wild idea for a fivedimensional city where alternating intersections are interdimensional portals between various Valinors and they get eagerly to setting it up.
"Oh, of course, you're at the age where you should just be practicing with little siblings and cousins, sorry, I wasn't sure - I've never seen a daeva before."
Yes! Also, they don't cry, just sort of make faces. When this baby makes a face her daddy gives her a chewable object and she chews it.
He can see why that would be more appealing than human babies. He does not comment on how orcs are obviously well-engineered to be an army of slaves for Melkor, that would be rude.
He can hold the baby as long as he likes and then the orc will dismiss him.
"What? I don't hear so good, little... wingy... whatever you are," she says.
"Mother's just doing it for the immortality bit, she doesn't need anything," says her son.
"You should probably get angels or fairies, then, the dots have stuff to pay them for their time with. Or do they, are you out or something -"
"They said something about those taking longer and this dot is crowded so they gave us this circle instead. MOTHER YOU CAN SEND HIM BACK NOW."
"What?"
"YOU CAN SEND HIM BACK NOW."
He waits to go back, drops a note to Bright - check wait times on angels and fairies, I wasn't sure if he meant there were long lines to summon or that there are long waits for an answer once you draw a circle -
Wait time averages thirty seconds for fairies, a minute and twenty seconds for angels, which is enough to add up at a crowded dot.
He drops Cam a note. I want to know if that's fewer angels taking summons or just the increase in demand.
Cam conjures up some Heaven and Fairyland news, since he can read it in Milliways, and concludes: The increase in demand is doing most of it, but some indirectly - they no longer pounce on summons when they might want one soon, they expect to be able to get one anytime and wait till they feel like it. Surveyors think more people are taking summonses but average payout's improved so they don't have to show up to six of them to get what they want.
Think we should alternate which summoning-capable worlds have time passing in them, or anything like that? I don't think we should add another...
Yeah don't add one till demand from dots levels off and can be more addressed by retrieving locals. Wait time on randoms is not catastrophic, but maybe find some daeva who are keen to be individually summoned a lot for some higher effort payout? Take dot summonses all day for twelve languages and a Puffskein and five doses Polyjuice plus a tipoff about how fun Elf hair is?
