Everyone is quietly maintaining their own weapons while December works.

Ruby and Sable glance over a bit more often than others, watching excitedly.

It takes time and concentration, but gradually the blade starts to form under her hands. It has no tang or grip - that will come later - but the curved blade will hold an edge well enough.

It's calming, working like this. There's a rhythm to the hammerstrokes. It feels...

It feels a little like coming home.

... This is going to take more than one day. 

"I could finish this," December says. "And arguably I should, just to confirm that the power works as advertised. But I'm not sure it'd be the best use of my time."

She stretches and nods. "Probably best to save it until class, or until we're working on the actual weapon."

She closes up the mechanism she's currently working on.

"What should I do with this piece, should I bring it with me back to my dorm room or what?"

Ruby points out a set of shelves for unfinished projects. "It was so cool watching you work on that. Like you couldn't even tell that you didn't know how to do that yesterday!"

"I can't really take credit for it, but yeah, it's cool."

December folds her hands together and smiles. "... Alright, I guess it's time I got back to my room and turned in for the night. Today felt like it lasted like a month."

Sable nods. Everyone is more or less packed back up, so they start trooping back to the dorms together.

"You're really diving in well. Proud of you three."

"You had more than a little to do with that, you big softie."

She grins and blushes a bit. "I try."

"She really is a softie. Can't stay angry at nearly anyone, always tries to help people."

"We're rather fond of that about her."

"Awwww, she doesn't even try to deny it. Cute."

Sable continues to be flustered and blushy.

"Attacked on all sides, I swear."

Violet darts in and kisses Sable's cheek. 

"Because you deserve it."

Sable sighs and smiles and hugs Violet and Maya close as they walk.

"Think you'll be up for trying some different weapons tomorrow? See what sort of caliber and profile you feel like?"

"Yeah, definitely. It was intense this morning, I really have to thank you for it. It kind of, um." She looks over at Sable. "Precipitated things between me and Sable, so I really appreciate you taking the time to show me something so real."

Ruby blushes at the mention of Things, but nods. "Yeah! It's really intense! I dunno what you mean about 'real' though, melee and ranged are both really important for fighting Grimm."

"I guess, yeah. I just like ranged better."

She nods and smiles. "I really like it too! And it's totally valid to have a preference! Just sometimes they've got a hide thick enough that you need to cut through it manually, get in close enough to get the weakspots, and directly put your Aura behind your strikes."

"I see..." Lilian nods. "That makes sense."

"There are special techniques you can use to enhance projectiles with Aura, though, and if you know in advance you're going to be facing really big Grimm then you can pack the really big guns too. So us ranged girls aren't left out in the cold there."
