The danger is still present, in your time, as it was in ours. (Or: In which Ophelia found the source of the rakghoul plague, and Mace Windu found *her*.)

Her face is grim and blank because in real life Padme probably isn't getting out of this one alive and almost certainly not unscathed.

But it's obvious what her orders would have been.

"Even if I can surprise him, how are we getting him out of her body?" This is mad Jedi magic, but when Padme married Anakin she got up to speed on all the legends, obviously, just in case.

"That we're planning to ambush him, Kenobi."

"I can do exorcisms.  Occupational hazard of Sith artifacts."

"Exactly what does an exorcism involve. How long do you need and what are the constraints. I'm a good actor and can do a cover story for the emotions if he can sense them."

She can in fact explain the constraints!

It's funny, actually - she still has most of the kit she prepared for Jebble, and that was a substantially similar situation.

Sheev, however, is not Karness Muur.  Power he may have, but skill?  No.  His spirit is not bound to a nearly invulnerable artifact of power.

His binding is in fact being contested.

It may be that all they need to do is give Padmé the strength to win the struggle between them.

She's going to prepare for the case that that is not the case, but she has a good feeling about that.

"...No."

"Master Yoda - it is not only for her sake -"

"No. Reckless, we are being. Skill he does have, Darth Mourne. Grand Master of the Jedi Order am I. Think I rose to this place by accident, do you, hmm? Strength enough, he has, to occlude the very Force. To Vitiate, you yourself compared him. Across the galaxy, his influence reaches. And sense him we could not, all the Council together. Long have I spoken with him. No hint, no flaw, no flicker in the Force could I sense, only the darkness of war. Underestimate him, do not."

"Skill in many things indeed he has.  His stealth and his rituals, I must agree, are very effective.

"Skill in this particular thing he does not have, because he had to improvise shoving himself into someone so badly that we noticed, and that person is still able to fight him despite the overwhelming power differential.  Regardless.  You may note that I have said I am preparing for things to go wrong.  That is one of the things.  If he poses a sufficiently stringent problem I have plans for that.  Whatever else happens, I am not going to let him keep her."

(He's unconscious and may never wake up, but biased though he may be he would say that has more to do with Senator Amidala being incredible than Darth Sidious being flawed. He actually never could land a mind trick on her no matter how much power he put into it. - It wasn't like that, there were, uh, circumstances.)

He suppresses the urge to thank her, and then reflects on that and on their situation and then right in front of the Council says, "Thank you, Darth Mourne. Padmé is a good friend. I appreciate it - I hope you can spare her."

All right. They will...

Many things are uncertain and all paths lead into darkness.

They are peacekeepers and scholars and guardians of justice.

...Not a conquering army.

Darth Mourne is a stranger and a Sith, and this could be their undoing.

On the other hand, the clones have always obviously been a trap.

So what does it come down to?

In the final extremity, what is the Jedi Order?

Do they plough on ahead as they have for a thousand years, made and remade and remade in the image of the ancient Army of Light?

Do they break with tradition and accept the loss of the Republic and descend in force to destroy the Sith, call all the thousands of Jedi all together away from the war and drag Sidious down with them?

(Maybe they could come up with a plan but she is dashing around the galaxy trying to buy as much Jedi survivability with as little vulnerability to the Confederacy as possible.)

Or do they have faith?

May the Force be with you, Darth Mourne.

And with you, Masters Jedi.

...If she has to return herself to the Force and take Palpatine out with her she is prepared to do that.  Insofar as one ever really can be.

Obviously she does prefer to exist.  But he is not walking away from this.

"...In the event of my untimely discorporation you should consult my holocron for further thoughts on the Fallen Jedi in your care.  I will ensure it is up to date before we begin."

Transportation arrives.

She explains how the randomizer works, from a script decided by the randomizer, so Sabé can communicate to the other handmaidens without being intercepted by foresight.

Darth Mourne spends time meditating with one of her holocrons, faithfully preserved and oft consulted through the years.

And all of this takes so very much precious time!

She is discharging herself from this hospital. She extremely loudly believes herself to have been illegally brutalised by the Jedi Order for having been a credible witness to what was very probably their murder of Chancellor Palpatine. Comms might be down - extremely competently, but there's no way to make that not suspicious - but the Central Medcenter is a large public place. She is lucid, recognisable to at least some people, and extremely compelling. She intends, with her spine ramrod-straight and her fists clenched tightly enough to draw blood at her sides, to exact justice in the Senate.

She leaves, on foot, into the underlevels.

Oh, I'm so sorry, Senator, but the terminal crashed when we tried to process your discharge, I'm afraid you have to do it again, or we could get the flimsiplast version?  So sorry, the war, you know.  Can't get replacement parts for love nor money nowadays.

There are many, many little inconveniences in the way to your exit.

Did you take a lift, or the stairs, by the way?

"I heard it had to've been a Sith who did it, actually, 'cause the Chancellor got fried with lightning.  You ever seen a Jedi fry somebody with lightning?"

Also, it takes about as much time as it does for them to get there.  At, as you yourself travelled earlier, suspiciously fast speed.  So.  No.  That is not as much time as you think you have.  You Will Not Go To The Underlevels Today.
