—and then she suddenly lets go of everyone, falling to the ground and gasping for air. She looks around, and suddenly there's a glowing—hole?—beneath her brother and herself, and they fall, fall through it—
"Then I hope you're already doing so."
"Thank you."
Eventually, Maurice's mothers have to eat and sleep. They do so reluctantly.
Sometimes they try to make conversation with her. Mostly they tell her about Maurice.
"He's an old soul. You know what that means, Morri?" asks Mary.
"I wonder what his Miracle will be," wonders Siobhann, a little sadly.
"Then how'd you know those buds would grow into wings?"
Said buds are well on their way, incidentally. So much so that the hospital is trying to keep Maurice on his side.
<I can see hours, not days into the future. And I can see everything, including his skeletal and muscle structure.>
An idea strikes Siobhann. "You could diagnose illness with a glance, couldn't you?"
"That could help a lot of people, you know."
"Maybe we could arrange something with the hospital."
"Maurice would like that."
"Why do you think he makes the mosaic beautiful?"
<He makes beautiful things. The mosaic glows with him. It is impossible to explain to one who does not see the mosaic, and I could show you it but you would forget.>
