<It's okay,> she says—or causes her brother to think, one of those.
—and then she suddenly lets go of everyone, falling to the ground and gasping for air. She looks around, and suddenly there's a glowing—hole?—beneath her brother and herself, and they fall, fall through it—
"I wouldn't try getting anything out of her. She's basically a cat with wings that doesn't like ear scratches. I assume, anyway."
Then she'll find herself in what looks like a waiting room in a very modern hospital. There are doctors and nurses around, who regard them with less bafflement than you might expect.
"Do you want to see Maurice before we start the tests?"
She leads them both to Maurice. He's lying unconscious in a hospital bed, hooked up to some monitoring equiptment.
"Those are to make sure he has enough water while he's resting, and so he can get medicine that'll keep him from hurting so much."
"We'll have to discuss that with his mothers. I'm afraid you frightened them very badly."
