"Mals eat mana. They can't get it anywhere else. Anyway, the ones we care about are the ones that are eating people, agglos are useful research subjects but we don't need to drive them extinct and if there are secretly still cave dragons somewhere they're evidently not bothering anybody."

"Fair enough. --What's a cave dragon?"

"...extinct mal, dragon, lived in caves? Aadhya mentioned them once because she had an old blueprint for mana storage that called for a cave dragon horn but even if there were still cave dragons there aren't any in the Scholomance."

"We have dragons. They're, uh, people."

"That's not surprising, you have a lot of things that are people! I don't think cave dragons were but I admittedly have never met one."

"When I said I was part wulong--that's long as in eastern dragons, I can't turn into one yet but Mum can, the same way as Mama and Eliza can turn into cat zooarchs. Except that there aren't any zooarchs that aren't transformed witches, and there are with dragons."

"Draviri turn into western dragons."

"Huh. We used to have some relatively more benign mals, but except for agglos they've mostly gone extinct at this point, outcompeted and eaten by the more predatory ones."

"It's usually easier to avoid going extinct when you're persony enough to think of going running for help."

"I imagine that would help in principle though I am now imagining a cave dragon buttonholing some wizards to ask for help with a grogler infestation and I just don't think it ends well for anyone."

"Yeah, you also have to have any idea who it's a good idea to ask."

"Anyway, there are no cave dragons left as far as I know, but there are still groglers, and we can get them all in one place and flatten them."

"Yeah. --Oh, you know what, Lamias have the respawning kind of immortality, I wonder how good a meal a mal would make for a Lamia. They're not very intelligent but neither are golden fish, that's not the thing that matters to Lamias, we should put that on the announcement."

"--Oh that's a really good thought! I'm drafting the ad, I'll put that in the draft."

"Golden fish?"

"Magic little golden fishies. They're very expensive to keep and slow to breed, but they substitute for humans for essentially all sacrificial purposes."

"Gosh. Well, if some lamias want to wade in and chomp things and count on respawning if they chomp things that are poisonous, on fire, covered in spines, and/or acidic, they can be part of the team."

"Maybe some will want to move here to breed and snack on agglos."

"Agglos are fun to keep, they get mana out of residual intent on random scraps - orts and woodchips and hardware and stuff - they love aluminum foil - if they make good snacks too then so much the better."

"I know a few Lamias who want biological kids and are holding off because it's so hard to live ethically as one, it'd be very good if that worked."

"Before we put out the ad we should have a serious brainstorming session for other potential interactions like that."

Bella nods. "Can I get a complete list of all the kinds of witches, it sounds like species is a huge deal and probably where most such interactions will be found."

"I'm not sure I know all the kinds, there are some obscure ones. But off the top of my head...human, Daeva, Dryad, Kekubi, Pharon, Vanir, Erinyes, Mimi, Oread, Naiad, Nymph, Gorgon, Sprite, Pixie, Fairy...Gemini, Spider, Gnome, Elf, Hollow, Wither...Ifrit, Siren, Empusa, Wulong, Dravir, Hannya, Changeling...Genie, Aurai, Lamia, Undine, Sylph, Taura, Jotun, Orc...Dwarf, Sword, Doll, Lilin, Luxal...Inkborn. Am I missing anything?"

"'Cyborg' and 'Xeno' are types that were developed by Alphazon fairly recently," Belladonna contributes. "I can't think of anything you're missing immediately."

"There's probably a book back at the college."
