"Was that a D&D reference? Aren't you meant to be a jock? Also what'd he say?"

"He said you're more comprehensible to him than I am."

"That's still true.  I don't know—any of those things."

"Should we go inside? Or do you want us to not?"

"I—it's.  Yes, yeah, he can come in.  ...Uh, he may—I mean, the steps might be rough—"

"I'm still an athlete," Jake says, walking over to Oliver. "—assuming you don't mind? There's stairs up and this house is from the 90s so I'll need to carry you upstairs. I guess I could try carrying you in your chair."

"It's fine, you can carry me," he says, after some hesitation.

"We don't have to."

"There's magic."

"That's what I thought."

"I can levitate you, and not really other things, but I don't know whether I expect to have a harder time levitating you while carrying something than you while not.  Not that—I don't know that this is a good time to test that."

"No, probably not." He starts pushing.

"Probably not what?"

"A good time to test whether he could fly me while I'm carrying you."

"Oh. ...that'd be cool."

"Or the chair."

"Carrying you or the chair, he clarifies."

"Does he have any questions?  About ghosts, or for me?"

"Do you have any questions about ghosts, or for Jeremy?"

Okay here's the front door, can... Jake turn the lights on? Are they working now?

"—Uh!  Stopstopstop—"  Once Jake stops moving for the light he gets less urgent.  "I meant to say before, sorry, there's just been a lot going on—I don't expect the wiring to work but I don't know enough about electricity to guess whether it'll not work like we're just in the dark or not work like starting a fire or zapping you.  It was already kind of dodgy when we moved in; I sold my bigger CD player because I wasn't allowed to plug it in upstairs."

Wow, is that how poor people be living?

"There's a contractor coming tomorrow who's going to look at, uh, everything, you're gonna need to tell me anything like that you can think about. They might just entirely replace the wiring. Oh and, like, stuff you care about, like your bedroom? If there's anything you'd rather people not touch or be careful about or whatever."

Now time to carry Oliver up the stairs. He'd take this opportunity to flirt under different circumstances but he will instead not.
