"I don't think a god would use spaceships."

The science fantasy Valar pretty much did.

And the locals here haven't got to the point of inventing their own, I suppose. Sigh.

"You can ask Jovah questions through an oracle intermediary if -" She looks at Bella. "Or you can not do that."

We'll not come to Jovah's attention, I think.

"Okay. Well, Jovah doesn't pay particular attention to the Eyrie but I'm concerned that if we bring you all up there people will think my parents had a mortal child and abandoned her to the streets of Velora and this would not be a fair reputation for them to acquire."

" - people do that???"

"...well, my parents wouldn't, but sometimes it happens. There's Eyrie-funded residential schools for stray children since the angelica Rachel set them up."

"Their parents abandon them?"

"Or sometimes the parents don't get along particularly well and the mother runs off with the baby and then something happens to her, but either's possible."

"- I guess a Jovah who doesn't do anything about abandoned children is better than a Jovah that does things, because then he'd probably do stupid evil things?"

"...what would you be expecting him to do about them?"

"Uh, make all the plants edible so they don't starve and the climate around them temperate so they're not cold, and reembody their parents if they died or help them if they need help..."

"Jovah does drop seeds and change the weather when angels ask but he doesn't - reembody - people."

"Even the Valar do that and they're stupid and evil."

The Valar are a kind of god that two worlds we've been through have. One set banished me back to my dangerous and terrible world and Fëanáro had to rescue me. But they put dead people in new bodies. Mentally tampered with sometimes though.

"Well. Jovah doesn't mentally tamper with people either."

"Good. The other set of Valar don't either, Ambela taught them."

"Ambela?"

"There's one of us who's an Elf."

"She's five thousand years old and she spent all of it talking her gods into being nicer."
