"What are her office hours?"

"All the teachers should at minimum be available between when classes let out and the end of dinner."

Kiri nods. "Anybody else want to ask anything here?"

"How often do teachers enslave townies?"

"Much less often than students," Mesmerra replies, "because in general students at MCU are starting off at collecting slaves, whereas teachers have generally been about it long enough that most reasons for which one might wish to enslave a random person have already been fulfilled. One might choose to scoop one up who particularly caught their eye for some reason, but as a general hunting ground, the town is for the students' benefit, not the teachers."

"Thanks." I think.

"Are there any other students who are from the same universe, besides Edie and Emily?"

"Yes."

"Who?"

"You'll have to find out for yourselves!"

...Great.

"Will townies in my neighborhood continue to have dreams sent by various powers of the Neath?"

"No, they will not. Any given person won't every night, so it's not difficult to prevent anyone from growing suspicious."

"Will I be able to access Parabola as normal? You did say communication would  work normally..."

"You can communicate with dwellers in Parabola through mirrors, but not physically go there. Prisoner's honey won't work here, but Red Honey will."

"Not that I'm planning to ever take Red Honey, but better to know than not, I suppose."

"What are those?"

"Prisoner's Honey takes you to Parabola, the land of dreams and mirrors. Red Honey lets you experience someone else's memories. This isn't good for the someone else."

"I've heard it described as 'incredibly painful.' I don't know if they lose the memories afterwards. I think the unpleasantness happens when they're, uh, 'harvested' for the honey, which I don't know exactly what that consists of but would be incredibly ominous even if I didn't know anything else."

"No kidding."

"What is even the ostensible purpose?"

"Skills, languages, pleasures someone else has experienced...addiction. I don't exactly socialize with Red Honey users, you understand, these are just the obvious speculations. Although I do know addiction is a real problem, ordinary Prisoner's Honey has it too."

"Uh, I hate to bring this up, but I did notice you putting a healthy dose of honey on your breakfast this morning--"

"Ordinary honey! From the cafeteria! Because it tastes good!"

"Just checking."

"I like honey. We don't get much of the non-magical stuff in the Neath, so it's very expensive back home."

"--Is there anything preventing us from doing arbitrage between neighborhoods?"

"No there is not," Mesmerra says, "although there are easier ways to get whatever it is you want from them."

"I'm sure."

"Is interdimensional transit also something that can be picked up extracurricularly if I ask the magic teacher?"

"Yes, but firstly, there are rules about leaving campus without permission, and secondly, this particular dimensional pocket is under my direct control and therefore much harder than usual to bring things into or out of without my permission."

"Yeah, I meant for after school."

"It's also possible, even likely, that interdimensional transit will come up on the curriculum."

"...what does it have to do with mind control?"

"Mostly it doesn't, although of course traveling between universes is an excellent way to find new and diversely useful slaves. But one will be better at mind-controlling people with magic if one is a better mage, and one will be a better mage if one's magical education is not tightly constrained to only things that would be immediately and directly useful for mind-control."
