"Does the sensory modality of hypnosis mean that one is limited to the subject's processing speed?"

"It does not. You recall my mentioning subliminals earlier, yes?"

"I do!"

"Subliminal messages are words or phrases presented in a manner not processed by the conscious mind. Written words inserted into individual frames of a video with too high a framerate for them to be seen, or soft spoken words covered up by other sound. Even though the conscious mind misses them, they still influence the subconscious."

"How exciting."

"Yes, it will be much harder to use such tactics on you," she says, amused. 

She then launches into a lecture covering the basic principles of hypnotic induction and programming, covering a broad enough range of detail that those who came in with no idea of what hypnosis was will be able to keep up but everyone will learn something new and useful. 

Eventually, the bell rings, signaling the end of class. 

"Your homework for next week is to hypnotize someone without using any other kind of mind control and record it. I want the recordings before class next week! My office hours are--" most of the time, apparently. 

Chelsea falls into step with Beka on the way out and resumes what she was doing as soon as class is over.

"I am going to have to have a talk with that woman at some point," Edie tsks, lips pressed into a thin line. 

"Should you be leaving your roommate alone with her?"

"I can clean her influence out later, and she's not the worst of the lot." Sigh. 

"Of the ones who talked bright red hair guy kind of worries me."

"Yeah he was definitely a bit concerning. It might make sense to approach him on safe ground and ask what the specific scenario he clearly has in mind is." 

"...Well, not to excuse his apparent plans, but I can think of a lot of uses for changing a lot of people's minds about something very quickly." 

"He might have a great reason! I just got a vibe."

"The vibe was definitely there. And can I just say that I'm really glad that if someone from my universe was going to be brought here that it's me? Because I have so many ideas for synergizing things with hypnosis already. Mostly the neathbow admittedly. --Uh, the neathbow is a selection of magic colors. The most specifically hypnosis-related ones are viric, the color of shallow sleep, and violant, a striking color that burns what's written in it into your mind." She flashes a corner of her notes to display the fact that they're written in an odd burgundy-like color.

"...magic colors. Gosh."

"Yeah! My favorite one is apocyan, it promotes remembering things in general." 

"How do you get inks in these colors?"

"You...make ink out of things that are the color? I don't know much about ink-making in general. The way I get them is by locating people who make them and purchasing them from those people."

"Maybe your neighborhood will have some."

"If not I guess I will just have to learn how to make ink. I should do that at some point anyway, I want to make glowing diamond ink." 

"Glowing diamond ink?" 

"My natural form is made of diamond, and I glow, and bits of me continue glowing when removed, which I am astonishingly casual about doing because the glow heals stuff including me." 

"Ooh, that sounds interesting to do science to." 

"Oh, it is."
