"Then let's go."

They go.

"So how was your night?" she asks Theo.

"There was not a ton in the way of relevant passages of books, so I ended up playing a game for a while."

"Relevant passages of books?"

"Interesting, applicable to the local area, possibly useful for me learning more about local culture in a more systematic way that I might not otherwise be able to easily get…"

"I'm not sure there's a lot you'll be able to find about that. Most things assume you were born here."

"I was thinking – read through a synopsis of something, find all the things I seem to be missing from that, look around for what they are, follow it until I understand." Pause. "Or could, if there were more in the way of books."

"It's a travel agency. There might be a bigger library in Bevelle, there certainly are in the temples but they're somewhat biased."

Shrug. "It was not and still isn't really highest priority, I don't think."

"Probably not. Sin is."

"Did you learn anything useful, at least?"

"Gave me a better primer on elemental magic?" Shrug. "Other than that I'd like to look into things like space-folding, since those are probably useful in the long-term. And I didn't realize there was pretty much just one sphere for magic."

"There is, the difference is in your mind. I could teach you."

"Space-folding?"

"Magic. I don't know how to do space-folding, yet. It has not been useful."

"I was thinking it might be useful back where I'm from," says Theo. "But yeah, learning magic sounds good – it seemed like you were trying to put me off with all the dire warnings about shaping my soul."

"No, not put you off. You just need to be smart about it. I would not have wanted to focus on thunder magic too heavily before coming here, for instance."

"Because it wouldn't have been applicable to many other things, I assume? I thought there might have been some – 'I should learn this earlier because then it'll be easier' associated with some of this."

"Because right now thunder fiends would benefit from it. I will focus on thunder spells after we've gone from this place."

"… I also did not think that knowing thunder spells might give them a hold on you. Though someone might have said something about that."

"No, it doesn't, I mean that using thunder spells against them would benefit them. As in, it would heal them. So it would be a waste to focus on those instead of, for example, water spells."

– Nod. "Are there not any thunder defensive spells, ones that'd counter their attacks somehow…?"

"Yes, the same kind of spell that would turn a bag waterproof can make you thunderproof. The one Kaede used on Rikku earlier could do the same versus a thunder fiend."

"But not particularly effective at getting rid of them, then, just nullifying them." Pause. "Can you make a bag ice-proof, by the same kind of spell…?"

"Yes."
