And there's the doctor, returning with markers, chalk, and pens.

"I hope he hasn't offended you too much. He never did know when to stop talking."

"It's quite all right."

She snags a piece of chalk and remotely sketches and incomplete circle, with Arabic writing around the edge.

"Is the Arabic essential, have you-"

"No, it is not. The binding may be in any language." She finishes writing and holds the chalk before the two men. "One of you will need to finish the circle."

"Alright, go ahead."

He finishes it.

There's a brief pause, and then a person with fluffy white wings appears in the circle.

"Hello summoner, what can I- oh, hi, Ellie."

"Eli."

"Hello! I'm your summoner, I suppose, though she made the circle. Ellie, is there something in particular I should do, or has the, ah, ritual, been completed?"

He glances down at the writing, then looks at Ellie.

"Ordinarily at this stage you would negotiate a task and a payment, but that's not necessary in this case." She gathers the chalk dust up off the floor and floats it into a little ball in front of Eli.

He dissolves it into air.

"Fascinating. I suppose the Nemeton somehow reached out to the system of summoning and diverted yours."

"Uh."

"This isn't the Earth we are used to. Early 2000s, magic is real in the form of druids and werewolves and other shapeshifters. The Nemeton is a tree stump infused with druidic power."

"Huh."

"It's known for attracting strange, supernatural phenomenon. This qualifies."

"Now that we know it's possible, were you hoping to go home, Ellie?"

"We don't know for certain they can be sent back. I can't see why not, but we've only done one test."

"The summoner has to each concentrate for about a minute on wanting the daeva in question gone, or get killed. Sounds problematic for a tree in either case."

"...Admittedly a concern, yes. It is possible for certain people, who have a connection to the Nemeton, to elicit more helpful results."

"We could still try dismissing Eli, it's probably not worth putting in the effort if it's impossible."

"I don't really see why it would be, but sure."
