Down in the forest, there is a tree.
What's left of one, anyway.
The Nemeton calls another supernatural creature to its town.
The blood that drips onto it forms a circle.
"Their ritual sacrifice left their souls permanently scarred. Although I wouldn't use the term souls, necessarily. Their minds are more vulnerable to outside influences."
"Then I guess as long as you don't scratch out any bindings you should be okay."
To the clinic!
"Tell us more about how bindings work? What kind of stuff do they block?"
"Bindings can constrain almost any action a daeva might take. Leaving the circle, actions affecting the area outside, speech, and so forth. They cannot compel, only forbid."
"That sounds convenient. How sure are you about the souls thing?"
"Very. Each daeva type's powerset is compact and concisely thematically linked. Demons being able to take souls does not fit with their maker abilities. If any daeva were able to do so, I would expect it to be fairies, and yet there are no stories of fairies making off with anyone's soul. And if it is not an extension of the individual power, then it should be one of the shared traits, like the indestructibility. There are no fundamental psychological differences between the three types such the demons and only demons would utilize that capability."
"Are you speaking English?"
"Do you have an America? If things are the same here except you have daeva and we have everything we have, that's fine, but it's kind of weird."
"It's an oddity without explanation and we can't easily do anything about it. I don't think it's worth worrying about right now."
"It is strange that for worlds that have superficial similarities, the magic seems completely different. My understanding of our system can't explain your daeva. You've never heard of werewolves? Outside of fiction?"
"She's probably right, we shouldn't be worrying about this. Whatever's going on with our different worlds, it doesn't matter now. Ellie, what do you think we should do now that we know summoning works? It sounds like if we get enough volunteers, we can do a lot of good."
"Duplicate the original Revelation, I suppose. This world is at about the same time."
"I think me and Stiles should talk to some people, to make sure that everything goes smoothly when we do the big reveal. Dr. Deaton and Deputy Parrish can stay with the two of you and focus on summoning."
"Maybe be a little careful how much detail you go into before we have distributable information on bindings."
"Extinction-level event, remember."
"We'll be careful."
They go off to play politics.
Meanwhile, they should go over basic summoning principles in as much detail as Ellie and Eli have the patience for.
Ellie is substantially more experienced in that area than Eli.
Of course she is. He wasn't ever a summoner himself.
And soon enough, it's time for them to summon a demon.
